Many people...

... ask how this web site got started. The board started in the mid-90's when a parent, in desperation, reached out to other parents by starting a message board. This was the first "Place for Us". Parents who were searching for information and support responded. It was obvious that there was a need for parent-to-parent communication and support. Eventually, the message board came to settle here. Under the technical skills of Abbey and the multitude of parents who joined the group, the board grew and grew. It transformed itself many times but never lost its heart.

When it came to be my turn at the reins in February 2001, there were over 8000 registered members from all over the world going through the thick and thin of it together. I found the volunteers who moderated willing to contribute their time and energy to keep this site vital and relevant. I would like at this time to acknowledge the people who brought this site to its present day state:

Thank you Abbey (Deb) who mastered the technical skills to grow this board to an amazing number and whose heart is as big as the board. Your spirit is always felt. You put in many years, hours of hard work and tears to make this board as good as it is. I can only hope to continue to your legacy. Glad you are still around for advice. Thank you also to all the former moderators and administrators who helped Deb get things up and running.

Thank you to the wonderful volunteer moderators. Without these volunteers the board would be a much less informed and a less personal place to visit. Thank you to Ephchap, for helping on the very active General forum. Thanks to Little Dude’s Mom and Busywend who have now joined Eph with the General Forum. Thank you to Transform Triumph who works the Natural Treatment Forum with such grace and dignity. Alisha and Martie who moderate the Special Education Forum, your knowledge and skill has, without a doubt, been a huge help to many of our members in getting appropriate services which enhance their education. Lizz, who also moderates the Special Education Forum, has a gentle way but has incredible knowledge and insights that help our members tremendously. Thank you to Wildflower and blb, in the Early Childhood Zone. They have done an incredible job of steadying the "rough waters" for many parents who have found their little one is out of control. Ephchap is also moderating the Teen and Substance abuse forum. Suz, has taken over the Parent Emeritus forum for our gfgs over 18yrs old. Thank you to all of you from the bottom of my heart.

The history of this board is parents finding that they are not alone. It was the truth when it started and it is the truth today. I was alone until I stumbled onto this site. I hope you find the camaraderie and kindness I found. It was truly a "soft place to land."
