    So, I'm Thinking Back

to when Dylan was 3. 5. When I came here and he was 7 years old. "Severe ODD" is what he was labeled, haha! ADHD/ODD. He had been diagnosis'ed in the past. Intermittent Explosive Disorder. Mood Disorder, not otherwise specified. Disruptive Behavioral Disorder or something hahaha. Yeah, he was disruptive. Slammed his head...

    I don't think I can hold on.

Well I must admit I really hoped I wouldn't have to come back here. AS much as I loved you all, I was happy to finally be able to move forward as life seemed to finally be getting better. WRONG. Let me first off say I'm sorry for such a long post, but I need to get this off my chest. difficult child#1 is...

Help - getting Intuniv (brand) covered by insurance

I am having an awful time with the insurance companies over Intuniv. My two daughters (16 and 11) had been taking Intuniv for years with very good results. Last year, United Healthcare just completely refused to cover it. The prescriptions would have been $400 per month EACH. So we switched...

Raise your hand if a little mania is starting to creep into your house this spring.

difficult child 2 has been reeeally squirrelly the past few days. No changes in medications, but he has gotten taller, so maybe we need to get his Depakote levels checked again... He blows into the house after school now like hurricane. He's LOUD. He's EXUBERANT. He's GIDDY. He's INTRUSIVE. He talks to...

Haven't been here in a long time...

Hi Everyone - I have been on and off this forum for years but never consistently stay. I really don't know why that is because I definitely belong here. For some reason, I find it overwhelming. Anyway, my difficult child is my son Tommy. We first started seeing problems with him when he was about 18...

    Really rough night

This is so frustrating... putting it mildly. I am writing this after a 2 hr rage with TRex. I don't understand what happened. Her big sister was in town over the weekend and we expected an issue when she left, which we got. Got ugly Sunday night. A big part of the responsibility for that...

Considering Prozac for my almost 8 year old

How many others know any good and/or bad affects of Prozac in children? I've been reading some online articles. Our psychiatrist says that she has research that has shown alot of positive things about it. We've tried ADHD medications, depakote, guanfacine and some things have worked for a while but...

I have been thinking.....and thinking.....and thinking. I think everyone opinion and advice has me second guessing me going forward with therapist and neuro psychiatric assesment. the Social Worker keeps telling me that the neuro pysch will find something, that there is something definately wrong...

    Potty training...well not really...

I'm almost out of Clorox wipes, laundry detergent and sanity. difficult child's memory foam (grandparents fantastic idea) is drying on the porch, difficult child's sheets and mattress pad are in the wash again, and several spots of my carpet are now cleaner than others. Three weeks ago, difficult child began showing interest in...

I don't know anymore if there is anything to be done to improve the situation

Hello all, I am new here, I am not parent but step-dad to a 18 yo adult child and a 8 yo one. And today I decided to post (sorry, english is not my first language) here because we have great difficulties with the older son. The kid was great when I met him, he was 13, he was doing quite...

My Son is still in a manic state after stopping the Zoloft - Dr. suggests Lamactil?

I have no idea what is the right thing to do. We're scheduled for the UCLA neuro-psychiatric testing in June (hopeffuly sooner, I am calling weekly). Our son has now been off the Zoloft for 2 weeks. He is still much more aggressive, confrontational, active, and defiant. He's not having super...

psychiatrist is willing to talk to me. Oh well, whatever I have to do. I received several emails from her today. The nicest after she found out I filed a complaint. psychiatrist appointment FOR the difficult child's WITHOUT the difficult child's.

Okay, technically, it was for difficult child 2 since difficult child 1 had been pulled in last week because of his escalating beligerence at home, so he really didn't need to be there again so soon. And just when I thought difficult child 2 would be safe to take to the appointment since his fever was normal all morning and at...

    Update

Wee difficult child saw the neuro on Monday. They are weaning him off the Depakote. I know his psychiatric isn't going to like this, with the bipolar diagnosis, but part of the reason they put him on the depakote way back when was because it was also a mood stabilizer and I have never seen any mood stabilizing qualities...

    And DevPed's answer?

Put him on Tenex. Again. The same drug we've tried twice that doesn't work. If he's not manic, it knocks him out cold in the smallest of doses. If he's manic, it does absolutely nothing, even at 8x the "knock out" dose. Right now, difficult child is awake 13-15 hours a day. He is having trouble...
