I admit I cheat with the butter. I either cut it up into dice and spread it out to speed up the process, or I use the microwave. I've got two big batches of biscuit dough in the fridge so I can make up a tray every so often. I 'play' with the dough and with cutters so I have multilayered or multicoloured ones with swapped over cutouts. Vanilla stars with smaller chocolate stars inside, with matching chocolate stars with smaller vanilla stars inside. I have half a batch of mince pie short pastry in the fridge, I might make more tomorrow. husband has been eating his way through my mince pies, plus I've been handing them around a bit "to test them". I think we've finally got the pastry recipe right. I wait until we have a cooler day, or maybe an evening, then do another batch of whatever I feel like cooking. I'll wait a few more days, though, because I need to package up a few bags of goodies and start distributing them around locally. That will make a bit of room for me to bake more... then once that's all done, everything I bake from then on will be for immediate family consumption. It's one thing I enjoy about this time of the year - being creative with biscuits & cakes. I have a grumpy Scrooge-type neighbour, I think I will take him some mince pies this year. Or maybe some fun biscuits, so he can smile when nobody is looking. I've been taking him a little something each year; and each year he seems surprised and I think secretly pleased even though he says he hates Christmas commercialism. I just have to remember to do this for him at other times of the year too. Marg
