difficult child is still on summer vacation. He did lousy last year at school and in summer school. Recently the psychiatrist added 5mg celexa and we upped it to 10mg, now he is back on 5mg... either way on both doses he's been sleeping til 12noon or 1pm. Last night he went to sleep at 10p and woke at 1pm. However some nights he's up til 1 or 2am and sleeps til noon. He's been taking it for over a month now, i have a hard time believing he still having this side effect after this long on only 5mg... He's also on a high dose 37.5 of abilify (with no side effects) and 2.5 mg tenex. Have tried othed mood medications with no success. Any ideas appreciated. TIA

Could it just be the lack of motivation in summer? Does he have lots to do during the day? Or does it not matter much if he sleeps his summer away?

During school, son usually goes to bed at 10:30 and gets up at 7:30. In the summer, he goes to bed at midnight and gets up between 11 am and 12 noon. Sometimes later if I forget to wake him, and sometimes (rarely) he gets up earlier on his own. He's 15.

So, it might just be a lack of motivation to get out of bed and if there's nothing pressing going on, why bother getting out of bed? If, when school starts, he can't get out of bed, or is drowsy, groggy all morning, then it's a bad side effect.

It could also be that the Celexa ADDED to the Abilify is causing the excess sleeping - not working right together.

Sounds like side effects of the depression, if not the medications.
Once their "pace" slows down, it then drags them down further.

Have to get that engine re-started.
Usually requires significant physical activity on a daily basis... think swimming lessons (daily!), running, long-distance bike trips, weight room, etc.
Have to re-set that metabolic clock...
