Jody, hon, don't make preps to move until you have that eviction notice in hand. And I know it's hard, but try not to let this kick your anxiety up into high gear. They're messing with you trying to get you to hand money you don't have over to them. This is a method that works about 50 percent of the time with slackers. IF you should get that eviction notice in hand........don't pay them. I'm sure you made a deposit on the place, let them keep it. This is a years lease? Never heard of landlords having a holy cow over a single month's late rent unless it was a month to month lease. Two, yes, one.....not really especially if they have the cash in hand when you say they will. Why? Because it IS a major PITA to try to get good tenants that pay on time. It's true that due to the economy it is somewhat a landlords market right now.......but I can't imagine that it's to such a degree that chucking someone over 1 month of late rent is worth the fuss. Odds are, you'll give them the money when you said you would. Landlord will grumble something about Don't ever let it happen again or you're OUT......and that will be that. If not? And they're going to be this huge of jerks over something like this in this economy where everyone is hurting??? Honey, you need to find somewhere else for your own peace of mind. ((hugs))
