I have this deep and abiding hatred of noisy toys. I can NOT stand them. Part of this is my own sensory issues going nuts at some of the noises, of course. The other part is that the decibel level is tested 12 to 18 inches away from the toy even for infant toys, but I have yet to see a child keep most toys that far away while playing. This can do permanent damage to your hearing but no one would know because the hearing loss doesn't show up for years after the damage is done. Of course we had noisy toys, I just hated them. Wiz didn't know that batteries could be replaced until he was about five because I told my kids the toy was broken and couldn't be fixed rather than replacing the batteries. Then my dad not only changed batteries on one toy, he taught my 2 or 3 yo daughter how to use a screwdriver to replace the batteries herself! I wanted to strangle him, lol! One year the talking Barney was HUGE. Supposedly it was really hard to find in some areas. My folks got Jess one, a friend got her one, and my inlaws shipped one to her. When the box from my inlaws came, it was talking. Inside the box. NOTHING was touching the part you squeezed to make it talk. father in law told us it started talking after the box was taped, kept talking as they took it to the post office, and they had to open it to prove it was a toy and because it wouldn't stop. The mailman who delivered it used one of his breaks to take it to us early in his route because it talked constantly and was giving him the creeps. There were notes on the box from all the people who heard it talking on the four day trip to us. It talked all night long at our house, and all the way to the Walmart where I returned it. The company said it was impossible because the batteries would only provide six hours of continuous talking IF it talked nonstop, which it could not do because you had to squeeze the hand each time you wanted to hear a short phrase. I later heard that the Walmart manager took it out and threw it away because it was making everyone uncomfortable because it never stopped! I am so glad that we don't have to deal with many noisy toys any more!
