This might sound really dumb, but I am going to ask it anyway...
How do you know when to file for ssi for a difficult child? I am really confused. Some people tell me that with difficult child's diagnosis that he is "entitled to it"...others tell me he doesn't really need it.
    Heeeeeellllllllllllllppppppppppp! :crazy2:

You know when you realize that he isnt the same as other kids, wont be the same, and you dont think he will ever be able to keep up. Now the problem arises when your income may be over the income limits for the SSI program however if your son ever has to go to a Residential Treatment Center (RTC), then only his income may count so he would be eligible.

You should go and apply anyway just to get the ball rolling. If nothing else you could find out if he is medically eligible but not financially eligible it may make things easier if he still needs help at 18 when he no longer counts your income.

Sorry if this is as clear as mud.
