The only suggestion I have is to avoid making the school situation a battle at home. This goes completely against my instincts, since I am a teacher, but it was a teacher older and more experienced than I, who finally just suggested to me that I allow school issues and consequences to stay at school, and deal with home behaviors and consequences at home. We were working on so many issues at once that nothing was working anyway, and I was exasperated and exhausted. Looking at alternative placements, however, sounds like a good thing. Then, you could even present a choice, like "You can either go to XYZ School and do your best, or we'll move to ABC School and see how that goes. Which would you rather do?"
