Does anyone have time warner cable? Can they explain it to me in english

Evidently they must be hiding some big dark secret because they dont want to tell anyone anything on their website.

Really...its odd. You cant go on the website and get the Individual basic levels of cable tiers and their chanels and their prices. Odd to me.

Then you cant find out for the LIFE of you what the prices are for the Roadrunner internet. It gives you 5 tiers of that from...buddy im slow to oh watch me go but no prices.

Now this thing does come with a lovely sign up right now for $29 for cable, internet and phone each for the first year then we will blow your socks off but they dont tell you what it will go up to!

Im not interesting in HBO, Showtime, Cinamax or Porn. I would love to get DVR now if I could. I have been waiting about renewing on my Dish to see if Timewarner was going to come down here. They have just hit me evidently cause the form letter came today. Im still wondering if they are going to charge me an arm and a leg to do the set up. It would be nice if they did it free since they are just going to down here and this is an initial run. Ive only been begging them since 2000. Im still a bit scared they will come halfway down my driveway and say its too far back.

But, could someone who has say basic digital cable tell me how much it costs with internet. And which internet you have. I think we are going to have to have either the turbo or the boost since there are going to be two of us on it.

I can't- but wanted to let you know that this is the company my mother says she couldn't get adequate service from - actually she said she couldn't get her service to work at all for a few weeks......of course I can't (and won't) vouch for a credible opinion from my mother.

Here we go again!
We have basic cable (no HBO or any of those types of channels) and broadband internet, and it costs $105 per month. Not sure if their pricing is different for different markets, but that's for the Los Angeles area.

We have digital cable (no HBO, etc), On-Demand, 3 DVR's, the faster internet, and phone and it's $192/mo. with all the taxes.

They probably don't list prices on their site because they always have all kinds of packages. Some are good for a year, some two, etc, and when they run out I just call them and find out what other package I can get to keep my bill down.

Roll With It
Prices vary from market to market, and with all the various packages and promotions they won't put prices online now or ever. Largely because it is so confusing that even some of their people don't understand it. Or that is what my parents have experienced. They have had it for a long time because my dad won't let anything be mounted on the roof (afraid of leaks), so they don't have a satellite dish.

Given the bundle we have with ATT, we would pay a lot more to have cable in our area, if they ever even bothered to come out as far as we are. My folks have had very few problems though, as far as I know.

Susie...we have been waiting for cable for YEARS!!! Honestly, I may just go with their internet because my satellite is really good and I can probably just renew that and get dvr's for what looks like the same basic pricing. AND get NFL network...lol. Cable doesnt have that and it is one of my favorite channels. Oddly cable doesnt seem to have anything special for football?

No, cable doesn't have that. However, it used to be that you had to have basic cable (the very basic - like 14 channels or something) in order to get broadband internet. Don't know if it still is or not.

I hated Direct TV.

Janet--

I hear ya! I am having some of the same issues myself trying to get information about Comcast.

Now to be fair, Comcast does put promotional pricing, and then what the increase will be right on their website.

What I can't seem to verify with any certainty is what, exactly, are the packages that are actually available for my area. The website touts the $99 phone-cable-internet package....BUT no details as to what channels you actually get with the package, what calling features are included and whether I could actually get it at my new place. I'm afraid it will be a "bait-and-switch'....as in "O you signed up for that $99 deal online, but in your area it's actually $200 once you figure in....".

IF YOU ARE PATIENT..........
AND YOU CALL THEM AND SAY ------------------(because I have done it out of UTTER and sheer frustration to the max)

I WANT YOU TO BREAK MY BILL DOWN ITEM BY ITEM - AND I MEAN ITEMIZE MY BILL LINE BY LINE.......
THEY WILL. You can also and I HIGHLY recommend this - GETTING ON LINE with a CS rep and having a PRINTABLE on line conversation - (there is an option where you can check at the BEGINNING OF YOUR CONVERSATION TO HAVE a copy of your transcript EMAILED TO YOU) and have them break it down for you item by item. I found out by doing this that the "DEAL" they were giving me on STAR channel......wasn't a deal at all. They just increased my rates elsewhere.

ALSO -------YOU CAN GO TO THIS SITE and check your internet speed to make sure you are getting what you pay for with CABLE.......I did it and do it often because.......(GRRRRRRRRRRRRR) FOR and entire year I paid for HIGH SPEED internet.....and DID NOT GET IT. I was getting LITE service...when I finally couldn't take it any longer? I called out a technician and THEY told me I OBVIOUSLY was PAYING for HIGH SPEED but getting LITE. ------AND YOU CAN BET I'm getting it now - but THEY are also being sued in a class action law suit by a lot of people over this. Not me -I'm the idiot that said - Just hook me up now at a reduced price.

http://www.speedtest.net/ - this is a safe site. Pretty neat how it FINDS you too - but it's pinging you so don't freak. (another BIG BROTHER THING...mwah haha)

I won't lie to you, and Heather can varify this, but I hated.......HATED Time Warner when we first got it. We got the full package with phone included. Ours isn't much and we're locked in for like 2 yrs or so. I'll have to ask husband the actual cost each month. We have no premium channels either. Just fairly basic cable, phone with unlimited long distance, and the dsl........and we have 3 computers running off it just fine so don't pay extra for the turbo road runner, you probably won't need it. Just make sure they know exactly how many computers will be on the system in the house.

Now, like I said I hated it the first several months. Our phone would go dead on and off all day long without warning. Internet too for that matter, but phone was worse. Drove me insane. husband swears he called and complained. But knowing him like I do, I seriously doubt he ever did it.:ashamed:

*knocks on wood*

Now they came out and fixed something with the lines outside, not for us more like a main line. And poof! No more issues. My phone doesn't go dead. My internet no longer locks up and is super fast. If it stays this way......we may stick with them as long as they don't jack up the price at the end of our contract. Cuz if they try it, I'll go to someone else. Around here, they're cheaper than ATT who is awfully cheap if you bundle right.

You're probably gonna have to go in and talk to them to figure out the bundle you want.

Shooting from the Hip
Janet... I am a couple of hours from Lisa and I DESPISE Time Warner.

Almost 2 years ago I changed things a bit and locked in a rate, $128/month, digital cable, roadrunner and phone, NO LONG DISTANCE.

I actually pay $176 a month PLUS long distance - which is SUPPOSED TO BE BLOCKED - I've begged, pleaded, complained... Doesn't work. Onyxx ran up $54 in long distance last month. She's not even supposed to be able to DIAL LONG DISTANCE without my access code (which I am positive she does not know).

Around here we're REQUIRED to have digital cable to have roadrunner. They didn't have turbo, they had residential and business, when we set up. So we have residential. Which is not slow (we have T1 at work, but there are 30,000 people here so)... Anyway, it could be better.

I'm sick of TWC and am seriously considering AT&T. I mean SERIOUSLY. I cannot get bills on time (they get mailed the day before they are due), the amount due fluctuates because of the LONG DISTANCE, so I can't set it up for auto pay, I cannot get through to customer service... I got HUNG UP ON and put on EVERLASTING HOLD a few months after I locked in the price when I called to complain. The PUCO and BBB won't do anything about them, saying I can't prove my position. NO, I CANNOT, because I DON'T GET BILLS ON TIME!!!!! (Although I did send the BBB one with a postmark. They told me they could not prove that was what was in the envelope).

Skip Time Warner no matter what you do.

Time warner is the only game in town right now. ATT isnt coming here. Least not yet for the foreseeable future. We tried getting them and they said they could come out but then they told us we were 300 yards too far from them. Im still not convinced TW isnt going to say that too.

One thing I wont get is their phone. I am already locked into my cell phones and I dont need house phones. I dont use up my minutes on my cell.

I've had Time Warner for years and I have never had the problems Step has had. Everything has been smooth and when there's a rate increase, I call them and ask them what we can do to bring it down.

What do you want? I have TW and while I don't NEED it? I ABHORE the little frisbee on the roof which hoovers at reception...because kids ride by on bikes and shoot BB's at it causing it to have tiny holes and then your reception is crud. They their customer service won't come out - they'll ship you a new dish - and you can climb up on the roof or PAY them. Or if it's over cast? No picture. Or if it rains? No picture. Then the stupid thing is still up there - they won't take it down.

Sorry - Don't like them. I'm not thrilled with TWC but their customer service (if you email them and IM on line and KEEP THE PRINTED COPY TO VERIFY YOUR CONVERSATION EVEN WHEN ORDERING) has improved vastly. Just be SURE you ask a TON of questions about exactly what it is you are getting and how much - if you don't understand - ASK.....they have to tell you. If they don't know? Then they have to ask someone that does and get back to you with an answer.....

ALSO - BE AWARE that a LOT of times -------companies are authorized through TWC to go out and advertise SPECIALS....for a period of time and give you deep discounts. THIS DOES NOT MEAN THIS DEAL IS THROUGH TWC and when it runs OUT? IT IS OVER. TWC can NOT negotiate to get you that same deal. Like the advertised $29.00 a month for high speed internet? Okay - if you call TWC and say - Is this your deal for a year or six months? Find out. If you call the number on the flyer ask them is this your deal are you TWC or an outside REP. in say Texas or Kentucky for TWC. and when this $29.00 a month deal is over how much will my internet service cost me then? (BECAUSE -----hold yer hat......when I did it.....I had no idea that I was ordering on line from the TWC web site and GETTING an outside rep in Texas on a deal for ONLY 5.3 months) so when my deal ran out? My $29 a month internet and $29 a month cable and my $29 a month phone for 5.3 months - plus 3 free movie channels and a box, with remote and another line without a box (which by the way DID NOT COME WITH A BOX or remote) and a DVR with remote...that was a promotional service at $9.99 a month - free box .........went from $84 a month to $240 a month.......and I nearly croaked when I opened the new bill. I negotiated and finally came to terms with them for $145 a month kept everything but the movie channels - added the Western channel...(later dumped it, went from Turbo internet to high speed internet - which they cut me to lite and never told me) and have been at that for about a year. I re-negotiate in March of next year. But we're okay with it. I may dump the phone....for $29 a month though I can call anywhere and I like having a house phone.

SO just be careful and ask a lot of questions......

Yeah Im gonna ask...gonna do that chat thingy to save...and Im definitely not going to pay for installing the routers for the computers because Billy has them and can set them up way cheaper than paying someone. In fact, just bring the stuff to my house...hand it to me...and turn it on...lol. I will run it and set it up.

TELL THEM - YOU WANT FREE INSTALLATION. Most times they will deal with you on this. I can think of tons of reasons why I would want someone else to do this ----

1.) Oh slave.......put that cable in there.......(peels grape) Yes you - handyman.....and pick up that nickle I threw on the ground...That's it....bend.........bend...... (slaps hand)

2.) NO NO NO Cory - I'm HERE - bangs on floor- run the cable up through -------"OMG MOM THERE IS A SPIDER UNDER HERE AS BIG AS.....OMG I'm NOT going back under the house for love nor money." here....what? WHY ARE YOU in the living room? I need the cable here?

3.) No maa'm we did NOT have your men inst------No but///////Grrrrrrrrr..........I see.......Yes......If YOU install it there is a warranty....and......but........you.......I......he......Grrrrrr.......(are you listening to me?) HELLOoooooooooooo?

4.) Just once a week we should all have someone do something for us for free. Since back massage, house cleaning and pedicure is out? I'm thinking cable install is IN.
