I recently listed to the following story on one of my favorite radio shows, "This American Life" : Act One. Wary Home Companions. | Neighborhood Watch | This American Life This is about a subject near and dear to my heart - difficult child's future life after his Dad and I are gone. He's semi-independent now, but he has a long, long way to go. We can plan for his economic future - but no so much for his emotional future. It seems to me from hearing this story that there is a real need for a volunteer organization of caring individuals who are willing to befriend adults who need that extra kind of friendship. There are going to be lots and lots of folks out there who need that kind of help - in fact there are lots of folks already. We have a small family, and though I love my neighbors and live in a very special neighborhood - I don't think I could ask them to fill that need. I'm wondering, what are some of the rest of you planning for your difficult children who need this help?
