Good Morning Saturday

G'day folks.

What a day! I had a lovely rest this morning while husband took mother in law to the doctor instead (thank you, husband). They got back a couple of hours before I had to go out so we sat together and drafted a letter to the drug company, reporting mother in law's adverse reactions. They needed my involvement with the letter because I'm the one who's been writing emails and making calls on mother in law's behalf, over all these problems.

I left about 11.30 am to go collect easy child 2/difficult child 2 for the face-painting job. It was already very hot. I tend to drive with the car windows down and my hair in a turban (to stop my hair tangling in the wind) but it was just too hot, so I had to put the air-con on in the car. But even that was struggling to cool the car enough to make it comfortable. Meanwhile my already-tanned driving arm was getting sunburned.

After I collected easy child 2/difficult child 2, we headed slowly to the gig. Stopped on the way to get some food, then as we got closer and realised we were an hour early, we stopped again to get cool (parked in the shade under the store - ANY store, but it happened to be a fabric shop) to eat the food we'd bought (never turn up to a gig hungry, it doesn't look good to eat the party food before the guests arrive). We went in to the store (air-conditioned - LOVELY!) then too soon were back on the road again, the party was only a few minutes away.

We parked the car (in the sun unfortunately) and got on with the job. Luckily the host had a good spot in the shade for us. easy child 2/difficult child 2 was a bit worried because it's been a few years since she did a party; but it was like falling off a bike, you never forget how to do it. We painted a lot of faces (child and adult). Funny thing was, the kids were going right from us and into the swimming pool, so the face paint wasn't staying on. Even though we were in the shade, it was very hot. There was a jumping castle as well, the place was crowded. easy child 2/difficult child 2 & I had planned on playing some games with the kids as well, but frankly, there was no room and the kids had enough to do anyway.

After everyone had their fill of face painting, easy child 2/difficult child 2 got out her balloons and began to do her balloon sculpture. She's always been clever with her hands and I don't think the host & hostess realised just how good she was. They were very happy with the work we did, although after the face painting I was just sitting and talking to kids (and slowly packing the car with stuff we'd finished with).

It was late afternoon before we left and if anything the day seemed hotter. We tried driving with the windows down and it was just too hot. We chose to drive back via the coast route, over the high bridge - we opened the windows to get the sea breeze at that point but shut them again - it was still unpleasantly hot. The hostess had given us a large box of chocolates, they had come from the fridge. But by the time we got back to easy child 2/difficult child 2's place, they had already begun to melt. I've put them in the fridge, when I've finished this post I will go check to see if they've solidified again yet.

Tomorrow it won't be quite so hot - tomorrow is forecast to be only 27 C (81F) but today it was 37C (98 F). It felt even hotter.

husband is a darling - he just brought me a cocktail he's been working on (trying to duplicate the delicious frozen cocktails from the Star City casino in Sydney). It's a frozen concoction, a slurry, of Midori, Bombora and pineapple juice. Green and refreshing. Pineapple, coconut, melon and rum. Just what I needed after a really hot day.

easy child 2/difficult child 2 got a number of enquiries from today's gig, hopefully she will get some more party bookings out of it and get a bit of extra rent money. She said she feels a lot more confident ow about what she's doing and she certainly seemed to me to be doing a wonderful job.

Tomorrow I plan to do as little as possible unless it involves the beach somehow.

Enjoy your Saturday.

Good Morning!

Marg-I'm glad you got some rest this morning. Temperature extremes are hard to deal with. I'm like you and prefer to drive with the window open when possible but some days the ac has to go on and I'd be upset if we didn't have it. Sounds like easy child did a great job and I hope she gets some more work out of it:) I'm glad you don't have much on your agenda tomorrow except for the beach-you need some good resting time:beach:

We're starting off at 8 below zero this morning-I can hardly wait to go work:coldday: Thankfully they are calling for it to warm into the 30s by Wednesday of next week!

After work I'm coming home and husband is taking difficult child to the Alvin and the Chipmunks movie-I plan on getting in a nap.

At some point we will go to the health club and maybe get in a bit of grocery shopping. easy child is cheering tonight and I'm bummed because we tried to get tickets so we could see her cheer and they were sold out (and this was on Thursday)! I think husband will drive her and stay on that side of town (it's a lot of gas money to go back and forth).

Wishing everyone a peaceful day (stay warm or cool as the case may be):temps:

Good morning ladies.
Marguerite, your cocktails sounds refreshing. What a nice guy. I don't envy you the heat. It's exhausting when the heat is that intense. Sounds like your daughter is doing well with this job.

Wiped out, a nap sounds like just what you need. I wouldn't be too happy about going work in those freezing temps. Very impressive that a thursday game is sold out.

I woke up with the beginnings of a cold. I don't get sick very often so we will see how this pans out.

difficult child is doing ok. We went to a social group last night. It wasn't a good fit for difficult child. He consistently falls through the cracks socially. In the meantime, his girlfriend decided that they were not compatiable based on religious differences. Sigh. difficult child seems to be handling it well.

Hopefully today will be a good day.

Good morning.

It is promising that the forecast includes a big drop in temperature, Marg, and I hope you get some relief from the heat! Whew...so hot. Wishes for continued success for your daughter.

It is currently 21 degrees in my area and looks like we may be getting more snow. It could be worse if I had to deal with the temperatures where you live, WO! It sounds like you have a busy day planned and will not let the weather hold you back. Enjoy your day!

Fran, I hope whatever is brewing passes quickly! (husband encourages me to take vitamin C regularly, claims it helps with colds, but medication web site I visit claims there is little to no benefit for vitamin C preventing or treating the common cold.) Also, I am crossing fingers that things will improve for your son.

Wishes for a good weekend to all :snowing: from my snow-clad neck of the woods.

Morning, folks.

Marg, I hope your quiet day works out for you. I don't know how you bear that kind of heat. I can handle cold without a problem, but heat just enervates me.

Fran, I hope your cold isn't too bad. In addition to the flu, there is some sort of nasty head cold virus going around up here. I discovered that it is possible to sneeze yourself awake. (or at least awake enough to blow your nose)

Only problem was that I was apparently chucking used kleenex all over my bed and the floor. I had to take my bedding apart and chase down all the debris. Probably a good thing that I only share my bed with my cat and they don't get human head colds.

Morning all,

Marg, you end of day cocktail sounds wonderful. I'm glad tomorrow will be a cooler day - the heat combined with pain always drags me down.

Sharon, my backyard thingy says -13 degrees. Enjoy your nap.

Fran, take your vitamin C & a break so your cold doesn't get worse.

Maril, haven't seen you on the GM thread in a long while. Good to see you again.

As I said, it's currently 13 below zero. At this point (after 2 weeks of single digit & below temps) my house is just having a hard time staying warm. Heck, after a certain point I don't care what the temp is.....it's just cold.

kt is home on a pass & upstairs sleeping. She & I have a couple of projects going on today so I'll be waking her shortly.

Hoping to get a pot of chili or stew going while we work on our projects. Maybe some barley soup.

Have a good day. Stay warm (or cool depending on your vicinity) today. Keep it calm.
