It's not just boys. Between the ages of 10 and 11, I shot up nearly 8" in height. Not only could I not get out of my own way, but I ate my family out of house and home! We didn't have "junk food" in the house and growing up Kosher, in those days short of stopping at a kosher deli, there wasn't really any sort of fast food. I can remember eating most of a whole roasted chicken on my own, accompanied by a big baked potato and a huge serving of salad or other veggies. For a few years I thought my mother actually preferred chicken necks and backs. Turns out that when does eat chicken she prefers the breast. These days she is mostly vegetarian, my sister is fully vegetarian, and I've got a vegan niece and nephew. I was a vegetarian for a few years, but had major problems with anemia and wound up going back to eating meat. I still eat very little red meat, but I like pork and I love fish.
