I'm glad to hear that the legal authorities were staying on top of his requirements. That would have been a nightmare.

Occupational Therapist (OT)- Some people are claiming that the authorities did all they could with this guy who had that girl in his backyard for 18 years because they had him on a monitor/ankle bracelet. difficult child has been on two types of ankle bracelets. One is for house arrest and alarms the authorities if he gets a certain distance away from his "base station" which has to stay plugged in where they put it in the center of the house, or an alarm goes off. The other type was a GPS and the authorities could (and did) track his every move- even where I was driving him with their permission. So, I can't figure out how NO ONE noticed that this was a convicted sex offender who was in this girl's area the day she was kidnapped. And it wasn't the regular authorities, I don't think, that called someone about him being on the college campus- wasn't that the campus police?. If they aren't monitoring his whereabouts, why on earth did they keep him on this ankle bracelet for about 20 years? But, I digress.

3Shadows: "Well, Jane, it just goes to show you, it's always something."

Yup. Story of my life. I just pray it's not my kid in the headlines some day... well, at least not for THAT kind of thing. :faint:

The fires are still going strong. They don't predict full containment for two more weeks. Last I heard the area burned was larger than Chicago. It's probably bigger now, and will end up somewhere the size of, oh, Houston, TX if I had to guess. It's now thought to have had a human cause, but there's no word whether it was accidental or arson. What's tough is that much of the areas burning have not seen fire in 60-100 years. It's way overdue. Most of the native plants here rely on periodic fires for their seeds to germinate anyway.

klmno -- and how did a sheriff's officer go to the door to follow up on a neighbor's complaint about strange activity at that house, and NOT see the tents and other stuff in the backyard???!!! :hammer: Somebody's head should roll for that.

Oh yeeah, that's right. I saw on the news that one neighbor called and reported that children were living in his backyard and they still never did anything substantial. I can't believe that a PO for a sex offender is not aware of whether or not a parolee claims to have kids. If the PO is not aware of the guy even having kids, wouldn't it be a little suspicious to get a report called in like that?

Wow!

So sorry to hear that he went down the wrong path.

Um, I don't think you'll be seeing him at the next reunion.

ROFL!

Actually, Terry, I don't recall seeing him at ANY of the reunions so far. I wonder if they're going to give him any mental health assessments, or if he's just going to go in, serve his time, and come out even more damaged than before. Clearly he has some issues that need work.

You just can't tell by looking at someone...

by the way, a classmate of mine and Hubby's was sentenced many years ago for trying to blow up a casino, in Vegas, I think.

Roll With It
It is always a shock when you realize that someone you knew did something so "out there" and dangerous.

Anybody have the song about Bubba shooting the jukebox come to mind?
