difficult child (age 7-1/2) has been out of control since late October, when his Concerta finally wore out its welcome. We slowly began to tailspin into full-on chaos. He began lashing out physically first at other children, then at adults (which still hasn't stopped).

We ordered the video and book for the 1-2-3 Magic method and began using it Tuesday. First night was a warzone here when he was sent to time out for the 2nd time (difficult child pulled out all the stops - broken glass, much destruction, screaming, etc). The next day at school he hit 2 teachers and was suspended for 3 days. That evening, he had 3 time outs, and was trying everything he could to annoy us (and embarrass us in front of our friends who were over), but he complied during the time outs. Today he lashed out at his sitter (which he'd never done with her), pulling her hair and biting her. Tonight, he only had one time out with us and was compliant.

Here's what I see: he has lost his power over us at home, and is trying to exercise it elsewhere with people he thinks he can get a rise out of. I don't really know how to get him to comply with others yet, but at least we're making some headway here at home. Counseling sessions for him start next week, and a full psychological evaluation happens on Jan. 22nd.

Even though things are far from being calmed down, we're at least able to breathe and feel good about our direction for the first time in months.

That is fantastic news!!!

Is there any chance of getting school and sitter onboard with the program? Does your son have an IEP and a behavior management plan? If so, it might be a good idea to request an IEP mtg so you can sit down with- them to review what you're doing at home that is working.

Congrats!
