I think the issue I have seen most is when a parent of a new difficult child or a difficult child they haven't admitted to yet comes here for support and the first answer is the harshest one.

i just wanted to add that, for me, what I needed was harsh answers. When I found this forum, what I needed was 'telling it as it is'. What I needed was other parents sharing their experiences, opening my eyes, saving me from my downward spiral of hopeless, helpless enabling self-destruction.

That's what I needed.

It may not be what everyone needs, but often parents have read so much conflicting advice that they don't know where to turn, before they even find this forum, and often they have read through a lot of threads on the PE forum before they post their own cry for help, so maybe they already know the general hypothesis of trying to find some detachment from our adult children's issues and the likely response from members here.
