I grew up with and English Springer Spaniel-- he was beautiful but a real brat. he really didn't like anyone but our immediate family. He was very protective of us. he also always wanted his own way, if we were going somewhere he wanted to get int he car. You had to get out the door without him seeing you. One time he got out a head of my dad and snapped and growled at dad when dad tried to make him get out of the car! I think back and am still amazed that he lived with us from puppy to death (at 14 years). We had 3 golden retrievers through my life and my sisters had goldens too. They were the best with kids. Good luck deciding. I will stick with cats!
