Krispy Kreme!!

I almost NEVER go into a Krispy Kreme store. They actually are not my favorite donut. But I do like them.

Today we drove into a parking lot that they shared with Sams. The HOT light was on!!!!

I made husband stop. We each got a donut, and I was going to get just one for each of us. But that was $4 for 4 when a dozen is $7. husband said we should get a donut.

(He just wanted one of the Santa donuts!)

We got our donuts and they gave us a sheet of free gift tags. I asked for a second because they are cute. THen they told me that each tag is a coupon for a FREE DONUT!!! They even let me have the second sheet of them!!

One of the gift tags made me think of Totoro's Nina. It has various KK donuts arranged to spell the word "JOY"

Toto, is there a Krispy Kreme near you?

Oh, my. Can't do KK. They are just too sweet. I'd have students bring them in all the time for homeroom. I'd take the obligatory bite then secretly throw the rest in the trash. A sugar cake donut I could probably do. They were huge in Vegas. Any casino you walk into has a little place that customers love.

Here we go again!
Oh I loooooooove those -- the regular glazed ones. It's like heaven in my mouth :D

There aren't any by my house (thank goodness!) but there was one on the way to my NAMI class a few months ago. I had to stop and get a donut and coffee each week so I could stay energized for the class (at least that's what I told myself). Of course, I ended up staying up waaay to late because of the coffee. And we just won't discuss the calories... nope, not goin' there.

The snowman donuts are so good and cute!! One medication size round donut with no hole and a small size donut (bit bigger than a donut hole) attached for the head. Then vanilla glaze and red and green scarf and black eyes/mouth. No filling, which is good, and YUM.

I like this better than regular ones.

They also have a wreath, white or green glaze with red, green and white swirls of icing.

Then there are the choc glazed with sprinkles.

mmmmmm.

Mmmmmmm.....Krispy Kreme. There is ONE store in the next town over from here...I look for excuses to go out there, and usually find myself at the KK drive through.

This should make you feel better though...
One KK glazed original doughnut has a MUCH better nutrition count than so many other treats. Just for fun I looked up a KK doughnut VS a Tim Horton's Chocolate Chip muffin (Timmy's is ubiquitous round these parts). KK wins hands down...so not only are they decadent and delicious, you could argue that they're good for you (Well...less worse than some other snacks)

That is good to know. I have not seen that site, it is pretty cool.

BUT, it told me that a KK glazed raised donut is 200 calories and a Daylight Donuts glazed raised donut is 140 calories. guess I am glad that there is no KK store in our town. The gas stations have them, but no KK stores.

We have an increasing number of Krispy Kreme stores in Australia. Our airports have them in the duty-free areas. Whenever husband's nieces visit form Perth they always buy a boxful to take home with them. They also often bring a box home to mother in law's from the airport when they arrive.

easy child 2/difficult child 2 was mad on them for a while, I frankly don't like them - too much fat, too much sugar, too expensive for what they are. Give me a packet of Tim Tams any time! OK, they also have too much fat and too much sugar but they are loaded with flavour and never get a chance to go stale!

We have a Krispy Kreme shop in our mall, the one near where easy child 2/difficult child 2 lives. She's gone off them a fair bit now. Thank goodness!

Hmmm . . .

KK donuts have 60 mg of calcium . . . my doctor says that I need more calcium. . . therefore, I should eat more KK donuts.

Makes sense to me.

I didn't notice that! I need LOTS of calcium,, more than the RDA. So does that mean I need LOTS of KK??? Daylight Donuts do not have calcium in them.

Mom? What's a difficult child?
OOOOHHHH!
We hardly ever get Donuts... as most of you know N has a problem! LOL
She has only been to a KK once, they had just built one in Spokane right around when we left Idaho.
We didn't venture over to the "big city" very often.
I haven't seen or noticed one here, I am sure there has to be one! Tucson is pretty big. We are out in the rural area but with all of the apts. we have to go into the heart of town quite a bit! Maybe we will search for one as a special treat!
We actually are getting N a new pair of glasses!
Can you believe she still has her original pair??? From 2 1/2 years ago! Can you say a bit Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) or weird? She is so good with them.
I think she deserves something.

mmmm, donut! I can't even hear what you are saying.

If you ever needed a good example of cultural differences this is it.

Marg and I like donuts but neither of us like Krispy Kreme. We find them too sweet and very gluey in texture. We also have a moral objection to the fact that with the exception of one store I know of none of them are cooked on site but in a factory somewhere else, so you never know how really fresh they are.

The donuts we DO like come from small shops that cook them right there, often in a window near the front of the shop. They come straight from the cooker still hot with a slight crunchiness that is just plain YUM! And they are usually half the price of Krispy Kreme donuts.

Give me these donuts any time. I would go without than eat Krispy Kreme, even if someone else is paying for them.
