My Dad had a heart attack today....

I took Grandma and my sister to the casino today so that Mom & Dad could have some time alone. We went to the casino that gives you a free dinner after you spend 2 hours there. About an hour into our visit there, husband calls. My Mom had called him but she didn't want husband to call me until much later. husband, being a very smart man, ignored my Mom and called me.

Seems while Dad was was using the weedeater, he started to have pains in his chest. And what does he do? He continues weedeating. After about 15 minutes, when the pain wasn't going away, he decided to tell my Mom to drive him to the doctors. As she's getting him into the car, he changes his mind and has her call 911.

There was a blockage in a main artery, but the blockage wasn't a complete blockage so he never lost total blood flow. That is good. So they don't think he damaged his heart. They did put a stint into his heart and are keeping him over night, with a possible 2nd night, to see things go.

At least Dad is his normal self. He was being a smart-:censored2: while I there visiting. My Grandpa argued with his doctor that he never had a heart-attack that he just had heart-burn, even after the doctor proved it. So, I walk in and Dad starts giving me crud about all this fuss over simple heart-burn. Men!! At least he's still alive and for the most part well. It's a great day to be alive!! And Dad better stay that way for a long, long, long, long time!! I still need my daddy!!!

Thanks for letting me share.

At least Dad was not afraid to amp it up to the appropriate level of help when the pain got worse. So many people are afraid it will be a "false alarm" that they don't listen to what their body tells them.

So glad this had a good outcome! :)

I'm glad he's OK, and I am super glad your husband called you.

Heartburn. Grrrrr! Yeah, it MIGHT have been - but it could've been worse than it was! Good for him for deciding 911. Should've done it earlier, but...

I am really glad your dad is doing okay. For my dad, with his millions of hospital stays before he died, used his humor to cover up his nervousness. He NEVER showed his fear of dying, even when he was. I like the humor better but.....

So sorry to hear of his heart attack but glad he took appropriate measures to get help. Your grandpa sounds like a handful - and I mean that in a positive and loving sense...my grandpa is the same way. I'm glad your Dad kept his sense of humor.

Hi,
I'm so glad things turned out well for your Dad - and I think with men, denial and pride are the last things to go! I'm sure it was scary for everyone involved and I'm happy he got the help he needed in time. Take care.

So glad he is doing ok. One thing I found is a mental relief..... once they know there is a problem there are more checks and so we have a better chance of finding things before a heart attack. I hope your dad can keep up the monitoring and pay attention like my dad has been doing since his bypass surgery. I know what you mean about wanting your dad around for a lot longer.

Wishing him a speedy recovery!

Sending hugs to you, what a scare! Glad he's doing okay now and on the mend. A friend of ours had a heart attack yesterday morning, three stints! Is it stents or stints? I think it's stents, I don't know. Anyway...happy your dad is back to his wise cracking self.

I'll second that! I am glad he was smart enough to finally call 911.
I'm so glad he's still with you. :) Hugs.
