((((((((((hugs)))))))))) I am SO SORRY. What a terrifying ordeal! I am glad he is in a safe place, that you were able to stop him, and that you have his father OUT. I hope that time and therapy can help him see what an amazing future he can have. Autism means he is different, and that his father is stupid enough to not see how special he is. Not special as in "Special Education" but special as in unique and wonderful with an individual perspective on the world that makes him very wonderful. I hope that he can use his passions to carve out a life that will be fulfilling and meaningful. In this case, living well to the fullest of his unique abilities truly will be the best revenge on his father. If nothing else will motivate him, sometimes that can get a person going in the right direction. My son was much younger when he tried, and it was wanting to show those who made him feel worthless that they were stupid idiots (his words) that got him to accept the help he needed and start down the right road. Please, if you don't have a therapist for yourself, get one. If you do have one, don't miss appts. YOU need this to help cope as much as your son does. This is one of the most traumatic things a parent can go through, and you need help too. Hugs and prayers to all of you. may the fleas of a million camels infest his father's nether regions and may he know the pain that he has caused firsthand.
