I had a hysterectomy in 2006 because of fibroid tumors. The doctor left my ovaries in saying that if would decide when he was in there if they would come out or not. Mine was done through abdominal surgery and I was out of work for 8 weeks - over Christmas no less. I planned my surgery knowing that we get an extra payday in November and I would need it during December. I bought Christmas presents early - it was very light that year. We have a policy here at work that if you exhaust all of your sick leave and vacation etc, that people can donate sick leave to you. I was able to get a donation of the maximum of 20 days donation. I never have an accumulation of sick leave so I had maybe 1 or 2 days of my own. I had to be off 30 days for short-term disability to kick in. I didn't even get the check for the short-term disability until I was heading back to work. When I went into my b**b doctor for my 6 month mammogram (have to have one every six months) he was not happy that my ovaries were left in. He said "now we have to worry about something going on down there" I told him I didn't have a choice that the doctor said to leave them in. If I had to do it over again. I would have the ovaries removed at the same time. Definitely if you are dealing with endometriosis I would.
