Whoa, I know your haunts well. We lived right off Devon in apartments. I think Rogers was the other cross street. I'm not Jewish either. I'm more of what they must call a New Ager, although I'm not sure what "they" mean by that. I'm also very interested in Buddhism, but I believe in a higher power and life after this life. So both of us really strayed from our roots, which is not that common for Jewish people. I lived on the street where Lou Malnatis was on. We ate a lot of pizza!! I could not tolerate Lincolnwood. I have never lived in such a stuck up, snooty and in my opinion and experience mean, bullyish place since then, although Crystal Lake was no picnic either. It reminded me somewhat of Lincolnwood. Living there, hubby and I, both of us so-not-like-a-regular Crystal Lake person hit the road to where we belong. We fit in well with a down-to-earth community without airs. Lincolnwood holds bad memories for me of being bullied badly in grade and middle school...ugh. Did you ever drive in the Sauganash area on Christmas Eve to see that gorgeous Christmas display all the millionaires put out? A few years ago we were in around Christmas and went back to look and it's nowhere as fantastic and beautiful as it used to be. But I have great memories of driving through the streets, looking at the mansions and the amazing Christmas displays. I remember the house that made a Christmas tree look like it went through every floor of their home and out the roof. It was incredible. And so many of the singing displays. It was a different world. People in LIncolnwood thought they were rich, but the people in the Sauganash area were REALLY rich. And what a show their Christmas displays were for kids like me who didn't have a very happy childhood. That is one memory I cherish and we did it every year.
