I am considering applying for a spot on the Mental Health Advisory Board for our county. Services for children are very limited, and the county closed the adult crisis center last year. Part of me would like the opportunity to really make a difference, while part of me thinks that anything involving the county is an exercise in futility. What do you think?

I think that you're right in that it could be very frustrating. But, it could also be rewarding, too. I'd apply for it. Just because you apply it doesn't mean you have to take the job. If you get an interview, you can put your feelers out and see what you think.

Is this a volunteer position?

I say go for it. If everyone "didn't do" because they felt it was futile, nothing would ever change..... You know your personality type - if you can fight the fight......

I can't think of a better advocate for children's MH issues than you!

And remember, the folks who sit on the board are just people like you and me. Your input will be appreciated. You absolutely have the chance to do some real good here.

Go for it!!!
