Resolution update

Well, so far I'm keeping up with my monetary resolution, which is not a big surprise because I have been doing so for several years now. We've gone down to "minimum payments" a couple of times over those years as needed, but I am being careful to be sure that I do nothing beyond what I must do until I can see where our taxes will be this year. I'm hopeful that with all the medical equipment and bills we've paid this year that we won't owe much, if anything. I have looked at tax rates and think we have it covered, but you never know until you get that W-2 and add up the receipts. Fingers crossed!

Nutrisystem... OK, I have to admit that I have not signed up for their emails because I don't want to put up with them trying to resell me over and over. We are on the "Weekends your way" plan, and on day five.

I don't get it. Has anyone used it before? You're supposed to eat only their food, but you're also supposed to get four fruits or veg a day. So do you get everything on your list plus the fruit? Then there are "free" foods. You're supposed to track everything but do you track the fruits? And are they a "Superfuel" or what? I'm confused. Has anyone used this before? Do you have any ideas? I swear I have eaten more food more often in the past four days than I ever do, but I'm starving all the time because I never eat enough to get full. HELP!

I did Jenny Craig about 25 years ago, and it worked wonderfully...as long as I kept eating their food. Once I stopped the program, because I could no longer afford it, and Miss KT was older and eating real food, I started putting weight back on. I was supposed to supplement with fruits/veggies, and I remember I was also hungry all the time. But I looked great! LOL

I'm not exactly content at my current weight, but am working through some health problems before I tackle the weight loss (again). Hugs. Hope the program works well for you.

I've read that as our metabolisms change from diets once heavy with sugar and carbs to a healthier balance, we will feel like we are starving. Because of what we ate, our insulin levels were set to cope with large influxes of sugar, our fat storing mechanisms were set to cope with lots of fat and excess calories and so on. When you feel hungry, that is what is happening. Your body is saying ~ "Wait! I have all this delicate apparatus set up to deal with the sugars and fats and starches we loved more than our healthiness. I am not changing to normal metabolism until I am sure we aren't going to need these coping mechanisms."

It's a good thing, to feel hungry.

It means you've been sticking to your diet, and that your body will soon adjust. Physiologically, it was very expensive for your body to devote energy to coping with the sugars and fats we took in. Those coping mechanisms for metabolizing fat and sugar and starch will take time to reset.

Very happy for you both.

You go, girls!

:O)

I'm sure that my metabolism is adjusting to something, but I'm not much on sugar - never have been. I'm more of a salt and fat type eater. I don't eat much bread unless I bake it myself and then I use whole wheat flour so it's at least got a few less carbs. I make our own granola, so there is a bit of sugars there, and I figured that per serving it was only 130 calories, so that's similar to the Nutisystem. We very rarely eat any canned goods - at least I don't. husband thinks nothing of downing a can or two of chili a day. We don't do desserts. My thing - which was terrible I know - was I'd have coffee with cream for breakfast, a small bowl of granola with a banana for lunch, and usually home cooked dinner consisting of meat, starch & a veggie. This 3 meals plus two snacks and including a fruit or veggie - I feel like I'm eating all the time now!

by the way, I weighed myself this morning - I'm continuing to gain a pound a day at this point. But I'll stick with it. I just wish I understood what they mean by the meal plan and 4 fruits & veggies a day. Am I getting the six scheduled food PLUS 4 fruits & veggies, or including 4 fruits & veggies. Since there aren't fruits & veggies in the box, I'm assuming that's plus fruits and veggies. I've looked up online and gone to their FB page & discussion pages, everything wants you to sign up, which I did, but I still can't find the answer. It'd sure be easier to understand if I weren't gaining weight...

Hi Witz.

Cograts for sticking with the payment program AND the diet plan. Both are so difficult, much less together.

I had some potato chips yesterday. Ugg. Feel bloated today. Just not worth it.

Weight gain - could be water retention. Not uncommon on many diets - takes a while for the body to catch up and release the extra.

Have you checked the packaging for a phone number, Witz?

Nutrisystem Customer Service: (800)585-5483 or (800)435-4074

Or have you already tried those?

(888)608-8110 is another.

I did call in the first couple of days because they sell you "shakes" "snacks" and "Desserts" but all you get is snacks and shakes. Apparently you can eat your snack for your snack or your dessert but if you do both you won't have enough. The only options of the phone are "sales", "where's my order", "change my order". I really should try to hunt down a "counselor", but something in my makeup makes me not want to. I feel as though I have been taken advantage of by a carnival huckster and that if I ask their specialist for help they'll try to sell me something more.

IC, I'm thinking that the four pounds I gained at first was water retention, and today (day six) I'm back at where I started. Yesterday I got the trots so bad from all the beans and peanut butter, which is BIG in the world of "extras" that I only had an apple and a muffin, then a spaghetti dinner, a fat free string cheese, and plenty of water - still only back where I started from. :(

Just spoke with the weight loss counselor. I'm supposed to eat two servings of vegetables, which are not listed on the menu tracker, with dinner and with lunch. These count as my four veggies a day.

Fruits are a smartcarb, which I get at breakfast & second snack, but I can only eat fruit once a day. Eggs or croutons are smartcarbs, too.

Somehow I'm supposed to come up with 2 oz of lean meat once a day as a power fuel. (I'm beyond opening a can of tuna in water and eating half of it plain and being excited about it.)

Packages labeled "snack" count as a dessert or a snack. Shakes are a snack or a dessert. There's nothing marked "dessert" in what they sent, and I need to be sure to eat my dessert 2.5 - 3 hours after dinner.

See why I'm hungry and confused?

I am glad you were able to talk to someone, Witz. It's probably like anything is at first ~ just hard to get the routines down. It will be worth all these little bits of frustration, once you've done it and made this goal happen, too.

I seem to have gotten past my "I'm starving and grumpy" stage. The information the woman gave me did help. Basically, it's a "three small meals & two snacks a day" diet and I could probably keep it up without the packaged meals. I really do like their shakes, though...

We'll see!
