I agree with the others about the water, fiber & miralax maintenance (Angel takes ducolax for maintenance) This has been an ongoing problem for Angel since about 6yo 5 hospital stays with- 3 resulting in trips to the OR to remove blockages under anesthesia. I've noticed for some reason the times she has been hit the worst with constipation is when her thyroid medication is off and needs dosage changed; on that note when your doctor is doing bloodwork ask him to check how your thyroid is functioning (TSH, T3, T4) Angel's GI doctor also looked at the blood for some antibodies to determine if she needed a gluten-free, casein-free diet ; she didn't but it was good that they looked because a lot of those high fiber things are loaded with wheat and if she had a sensitivity to it... her GI doctor said it would have made the problem worse. To avoid a hospital stay once we used maganize citrate (not sure on spelling) it's over the counter, little glass bottle, inexpensive under $5 it works as good as the golightly they give you in the hospital; but I gotta warn you about the taste its kind of like a mix of goat spit & urnal cakes with a hint of lemon the only way Angel could get it down was mixing it with grape soda and using a straw to get it past her tastebuds. Fleet's enema's - they make one for babies the nozzel is much smaller then the over the counter ones, another option when impacted. Angel sometimes it gets so bad that there is nothing else to be done orally and we have to approach this problem from the other end literally. (Sorry getting gross here) but when she has taken so much laxatives that she has liquid poo behind the blockage there isn't much choice. I hope your feeling better now and one of us suggests a preventative that works for you. Nancy
