Blackgnat, my brother is a paranoid schizophrenic too. My sister is bi-polar, with a cocktail of other diagnosis, my parents had mental problems, my niece was a danger to her family, psychotic, my ex, the father of my daughter has some serious issues and then...............my daughter.............sigh...........I too have had to "live my life having to cope with insanity." I completely understand how you feel and the depth of the impact on your life.............that's why I can say to you, you can do this, you can get out of the despair that you didn't create, or cause, nor can you change it.............it's his karma, his choice, his life, not yours. I've had to do that with quite a number of my close relatives, set boundaries, detach, accept. It is really the only way to find any happiness or peace. Otherwise you end up in denial like Nerfherder's Aunt..............the truth is what sets you free and you just got a huge dose of truth from your son. He told you who he is, accept him, love him without enabling him and go forward in your life............there is nothing more for you to do.............hugs.......
