SSI Backpay

I am not sure if I should post here or not and I hope I am not in the wrong forum.
I was recently approved for my ssi.
I am only going to be getting 343.00 a month because of my husbands ssd but since we are a married couple and our total can be 976.00, they are giving me 171.50 and him 171.50 which with his ssd amounts to 976.00. I don't understand why it would be split like that even though they explained it to me.
My question is this:
I have 16 or 17 months back pay coming. Will they give me back pay for 343.00 or 171.50.
Thanks

I would think that you would get the 171.50 x the 16 or 17 months. Although married they still treat you as a individual and qualify you based on your own disabilities as well as your husbands income. I know it can be confusing. You might want to call SS to get the appropriate information.
