Those poor NYC'ers. How insanely stupid

The story doesn't make sense. F-16s following Air Force One around to take pics?? It's more likely that someone stole the thing and the administration is trying desperately to cover up. Come on ... a photo op??? Over Ground Zero???

I felt so badly for those poor people on the ground watching. I can't even imagine how scared they must have been. That sure was some "mistake."

Unbelievable. I'm sure PTSD kicked in for thousands. When I saw the picture on television it even flooded me with memories. Sad. DDD

That's weird.

Since when are there "secret" missions to have photo ahoots with AF 1??? What would the point be to have a photo shot at ground zero? Sounds bogus to me, like something is being covered up. Or else someone has the brain the size of a pin head.

Those poor people! OMG They must've nearly crawled right out of their skin!

Stupid, stupid, yes. I do give Obama credit that he admitted the mistake and said it wouldn't happen again. I was never a supporter of him, but I think he's one you wouldn't want to meet in a dark alley if you've done wrong. Very polished in public, but you will pay for dumb mistakes behind the scenes. Somebody is going down for this choice. Probably more than one. It must have scared the living daylights out of people in that area.

Read fast...agree with- all of you guys...
No excuse. Could be a cover up. That is a VERY interesting/fascinating notion! That too would be no excuse...esp. since Obama has been so "open" about things in the previous administration. Hmmm
Recently, I read part of this weird book called Mental Floss...(can't remember the rest of the title). It talks about folks in world history with sordid/disturbing pasts. Things they did that most people are NOT aware of, behind closed doors, that would SHOCK YOU TO DEATH.
It is a positive that he fully and openly admitted that it was big mistake.
Do wonder if he took the fall for something WORSE. Hmmm
Maybe there is a difficult child in the ranks???Wowzer.
Well, we might not ever know for sure.
Am glad he said it was wrong...unbelievably wrong.
A curious thing...to say the least.

UNAMERICAN.....

I think UNAMERICAN is the best adjective here because NO true American would think that flying a jet with a fighter escort would "Sell" anything but fear. I'm glad it's not getting a ton of press coverage....and I would love to put this marketing twirp in times square and let him hear what his fellow NY'ers have to say.

Again - JUST BEYOND LOW CLASS

Yes, and he was so big on transparency in govn't.
I can only hope that you are right, Abbey, and someone's head will roll for this.

Nomad, fascinating book. I'll put it on my list.

They did notify air control and "certain" city officials, but they chose not to tell the public or the police department. The amount of panic they caused is incredible. People were running from their buildings, some buildings were evacuated and some businesses closed down. This is going to cause law suits (something the taxpayers will end up paying for) for loss of business, payroll and more. Not only stupid, but extremely insensitive to the people that live and work in that area.

Roll With It
This whole thing just goes to show how stupid some of the people "in charge" of the military and our country are.

They actually DID send notifications out to the city officials but TOLD THEM TO NOT TELL THE PUBLIC!!!

I would imagine that when the military or the higher offices in the Fed Govt tell you not to announce things, well, you don't have much choice.

Also, if I were in one of the notified offices, I would have thought it was a bad, mean spirited practical joke - the notification I mean.

It actually would NOT surprise me if it was a cover up to something else. But it also doesn't surprise me that someone actually did this.

The book sounds interesting, Nomad, thanks!

As a NYker, I have to tell you, there were some truly panicked reactions. It was like someone ripping off a scab. Considering the fact that the media THRIVES on sensationalism, this was brought up over and over again. My sister hit "basket case" when she saw the news footage. She's a single mom to two boys (one being an Aspie and the other being a pain-in-the-Aspie) and was working downtown on 9/11.

She called crying asking that I take her kids if she died. She called while running for her life, breathing in all of the dust and debris. She was pulled onto the last ferry that escaped lower Manhattan - the only reason she made it was she had become friendly with one of the deckhands that spied her in the crowd.

It was a day from hell. And I don't care if it's a cover-up, I don't care if it's a photo-op, I don't care if Obama apologized - someone or several people should be fired.

Just my opinion.

I emailed the President tonight.

I was respectfull but I called the guy who authorized this asinine and moronic and said that he has no business in government. I also said that President Obama should ask for his resignation.
