Star, Im weighing in late here and believe me I do understand just wanting it all to end. From what you say this program he is currently in is not structured enough to help Dude. compare that to 8 months at a program that is more suited to his needs and the possibilities of some success is nothing to sneeze at. A kid can do alot of maturing in 8 months time, given the right environment. I am with the suggestion that you go and tour the new facility. Pay attention to the other boys there. Observe their demenor. Do they seem calm in general. Do they smile? Are they clean and taking pride in their appearance? Observe the staff. Are they engaging the boys. Does it seem genuine? That said you still might be fooled as I was with my difficult child's first Residential Treatment Center (RTC) placement. Truly there are no real clear cut answers. So much of what we do for our difficult child's just comes fromt our gut. so I have to ask why keep him at a facility that lets him run wild and giving him the rope to hang himself when there might be a better choice. It seems like the choice is between a longer time at a facility that is doing nothing but babysitting him or a shorter time at a place that might help but be unable to finish the job. -RM
