Well NASCAR is doing its best to promote Autism awareness. All the press folks and the cars have Autism symbols on them and some of the proceeds are going to Autismspeaks.org. Several of the drivers have auctions going on with the proceeds going towards this. I know you can find out more at Fox Sports and the Nascar website. You can even buy these little pins that are shaped like puzzle pieces.

Did anyone see the HBO special, "Autism: The Musical"? It was beautiful. That really put such a positive light on the kids attributes. Normally the media doesn't depict autistic kids this well. I work with autistic children for a living and it's so rewarding. You can even go to a Michaels craft store, they sell rolls of the puzzle piece ribbon, and make your own ribbons to saftey pin to something.

I do hope that "the month" includes high functioning AS as well as those children with more obvious autism signs. DDD
DH & I have raised our 25 yr.old grandson. At 14 he turned to pot & booze to cope with problems. He's a GFG#1. In 2005 he fell off a balcony, had brain surgery and has TBI effects. His recovery is very stressful. Time will tell if he ends up GFG or PC. Our GFG#2 is 21 and now lives with his GFGmom. He's ADHD, AS, BP plus. DH and I have 6 children and 11 grands. Yikes!
