    Re: Cheese Sandwiches

    Susie is right.

I don't buy cheese slices often, b/c he eats them so much. Scenario: Sunday, I go to the store, buy 2 pkgs of generic sliced cheese, 16 slices each. Monday, I find the individual wrappers all over the floor. Some near the garbage can, mostly not. Once, in the sink. Tuesday, I notice "chesee" on the grocery list, open the fridge, and all that is left is two outer wrappers. Doesn't even bother to throw them away. And then he complains b/c he is constipated. I have a choice, I can buy TONS of cheese, clean up after him, or buy it occasionally and NOT.

We don't ever have white bread in the house unless it's homemade. I grew up on wheat bread. White bread balls up in my mouth and makes me gag. It's one of those Basket A things for me. And... The kids now like it, and DH will eat anything, so it works. (Besides, for some reason, white bread is more expensive... I noticed that yesterday. Weird.)

As for the "snack" - the invitation very clearly said "favorite Super Bowl snack to share". To me, this means finger food. Not whole sandwiches. I was prepared for those little hot dogs (smokies I think they're called), or cookies, brownies, something like that. DH was going to buy a vegetable platter to send - Jett hates raw vegetables (and fruit too, ugh), so I nixed that.

I went out of my way to make something I thought he would like. And Jett made the face before he even tasted it - so Susie is absolutely right. Actually, he couldn't be bothered, and this was just the straw that broke the Mama's back. (Not long ago, I made enchiladas, and since he doesn't like spicy stuff, I made a smaller pan with cheese sauce. He informed everyone at the table (including company) that next time I would just have to make him something different. DH went OFF.) And... Remember the homemade mac & cheese? Jett told Onyxx he thinks it's gross. Fine. Whatever.

I'd have rathered he wanted to take chips. But whatever. He can do it himself from now on. Yes, my feelings are still hurt - b/c he was VERY rude to me. (DH asked me why I helped him with the Christmas project, too... Said from now on Jett can sink or swim on his own.)

    Re: Cheese Sandwiches

It is being nasty before you taste it that would have me going off. Dh used to think I was nuts for getting so upset when I made things for dinner and the kids would be nasty before they even tasted it. Then I made him in charge of dinner for several weeks and he got to experience how NOTHING was good and that was decided before bite one went onto a plate, much less near a mouth. Changed his tune.

My dad had the solution. If we complained after we tasted it, we got seconds. If we complained before we tasted it? Sometimes we had to eat thirds. My dad made some NASTY stuff and is the reason I eat only a very few specific dishes with ground beef. Dad's special was browned ground beef, mustard and the liquid from the jar of jalapenos. Sometimes he left out the jalapeno liquid. By the third time he made it our dog would CRY when she smelled it. I used to go eat "out in the fresh air" and dump it behind the garage if the dog didn't want whatever he cooked (that was one of his more edible meals). It didn't attract bugs OR mice, and killed some plants when I tried to hide it in my mom's garden. I WISH I was kidding. This is why I learned to cook at age 10. ("Honest, Dad, it is FUN! And I can have dinner made when you get home so you and Mom don't have to")

I am sorry he was so mean. I would make him make the snacks himself AND do the cleanup before he left. This may be TT, but that doesn't mean he shouldn't end up with extra chores for being rude to you.

I am glad dh was also not happy that he was so rude to you. It sounds really good.

    Re: Cheese Sandwiches

Any chance he was apprehensive about the party and that triggered the problem? I know my GFG's manifested their anxiety in many weird ways...and sometimes just plain chickened out at the last minute.

So......i want an update on the party. Did he stay the whole time? Were the other kids nice to him? Did anybody eat your "yucky" preparation. This social outing has been on my mind and I have my fingers crossed that it was successful, or at least OK.

Btw, my sister told me on the phone a few weeks ago that she had made "grilled pimento cheese" sandwiches and soup for dinner. (She's borderline gourmet so that was funny.) I adore cheese but I've never tried a grilled pimento cheese sandwich. She said it was good. Hmmm...maybe. Hugs DDD
DH & I have raised our 25 yr.old grandson. At 14 he turned to pot & booze to cope with problems. He's a GFG#1. In 2005 he fell off a balcony, had brain surgery and has TBI effects. His recovery is very stressful. Time will tell if he ends up GFG or PC. Our GFG#2 is 21 and now lives with his GFGmom. He's ADHD, AS, BP plus. DH and I have 6 children and 11 grands. Yikes!

    Re: Cheese Sandwiches

Ahh, I didn't see it said to share either, I also thought it was just his snack. That changes it up quite a lot.

In that case I'd have just picked something he likes to munch on and sent it, if he doesn't have something, I'd have sent something like chex mix or whatever.

I get you on the cheese. Dh ate it by the stack, as in stacks of 5 or more, and often left out the bread. omg I have to be soooooo careful about buying certain things now. I have to laugh because he used to accuse Travis of eating his cheese. I bought some back a few weeks when they were on sale.......they're still in the frig barely touched. lol (I don't eat it unless for toasted cheese) Milk bought on sale has to go into the freezer. In fact, I have to make room for some today as krogers has it on sale for cheaper than I've seen it in quite a while. Bread.......I'm either going to have to freeze or put into the frig or just start making it myself because we don't go through it very fast.

I'm sorry Jett was so nasty about it. That was totally uncalled for when you went out of your way to provide him a decent snack for the party.

    Re: Cheese Sandwiches

    Grilled pimiento cheese? EWWWWW!!!!!

Sliced American cheese is good for two things: grilled cheese sandwiches and atop a hamburger.

Apparently, the party was kids only. The kid lives with his mother and older sister, and had been begging to have a Superbowl party. Since she's a single parent, he doesn't get to have friends over much. He lives fairly close, everyone got along (apparently Jett was the quietest kid there... WOW)... And... If we can get this kid and Jett together more, he will have a FRIEND at his school. This would help with the bullying, I'd think...

    Re: Cheese Sandwiches

NO! He wouldn't eat a pimiento if it offered him unlimited Xbox time.
