    Re: weird........

I also agree with Abbey. Although I've not as yet run into any to fear, either. And I've had experiences since early childhood. I can't judge other people's experiences but I often wonder if the scary stuff is either made up or caused by ignorance and fear.

BTW my grandfather must have known I was talking about him. I've smelled his pipe all morning. lol

But I don't necessarily think it's a "not crossing over" thing. Many I've known haven't had a reason to lag behind. It's more like visiting. Most especially with family members and friends. Maybe this kid is hoping to see his family, time may not pass for him the way it does here and he just doesn't realize they won't be showing up. Or maybe he thinks it's a pretty place and just like to hang around.

Crazy? Nope. I don't think so. People can call me crazy all they want. I've had too many experiences to just dismiss it as imagination, coincidence, or anything else people attempt to excuse it away with.

Not to scare you.......but with a house with the history of yours and it's age.... odds are you're having more than one visitor.

    Re: weird........

I'm like Lisa in that I much prefer older homes with a little character, a little history behind them. I just rent my little house but it's been here since about 1847 and up until my landlord bought it about six years ago, it had only been lived in by members of the same family that moved in way back then! And fortunately, it has been very well documented because it had been the home of a local Civil War hero. He moved here with his parents as a teenager, went on to earn much acclaim as a military officer, and his descendants had lived here ever since. And nobody is really sure but the house is rumored to have been a stop on the Underground Railroad. So A LOT has gone on here in all those years ... lots of people passing through, lots of births and deaths, wedding and funerals, children raised, and people just living their everyday lives.

It has a weird added-on floor plan, kind of "U" shaped, with the living room and the bigger bedroom across the front with a connecting door, each room has a fireplace and each of those rooms also has an outside door going to the front porch, so I have two front doors! And I did feel something here, especially in that bedroom, but more when I first moved in than I do now. My older Boston (who has since died) flat out refused to go in to that bedroom! If I was in there, she would sit nervously in the doorway and whine and cry. The younger one loved that room and would run right in and sit in the fireplace! What was really weird though was when they were obviously looking at things that I couldn't see! Happened a lot those first few months. They would be sitting there side by side intently watching some little invisible 'something' walking around the edges of the room. Both of their little heads and both sets of their big eyes were moving in perfect unison while they watched it, and there was nothing there, nothing I could see anyway! Or they would both be looking up watching 'something' go from one end of the ceiling to the other!

I do believe in all of that. But nothing that has ever happened here has been threatening or even frightening. I've never actually seen anything. Instead, it has been comforting (like the hand on my back) or mischevious and teasing, like the hidden dog toys. I can live with that. I'm willing to share. I did feel it more when I first moved in and it may have just been an 'ancestor' wanting to make sure I was taking good care of 'their' house. An 'ancestor' who likes dogs, maybe!

Have you watched that show "A Haunting" on Discovery? They have some creepy stories on there, but some that are sucessful in getting the spirit to cross over. I watch that show "Paranormal State" once in a while and they have sucess crossing them over too. Maybe you should watch and get some pointers.

One of Australia's favourite authors, Henry Lawson, wrote a short story on the subject called "The Ghostly Door".

If you follow the link back, you will find more of Henry Lawson's work. I especially recommend "The Loaded Dog". It's best if you read it aloud to your family. It's a favourite of Aussie schoolkids, in elementary school. But everybody loves it.

You may be able to find some links on-line of people reading these aloud. DH & I have been thinking of combining our forces and doing some of thesereadings too; if there aren't any Lawson (or Banjo Patterson poems) read aloud online, then we need to do it. It helps to have it read with an Aussie accent, but you can manage without it.

Another favourite is "The Ironbark Chip". Ironbark is VERY hard wood, it blunts axes. It also has long splinters in it, I remember my father cursing at it when he had to chop it. I remember picking up the pieces of wood for our fire and having to handle it carefully, because those splinters were like steel spikes and would go through leather gloves.

But then again I tend to have the "bring it on" attitude for the most part.

Ya think? haha...Toto, you crack me up.

I'd be one that says, "Ok...let's sit down and chat. So you're a ghost? COOL. You want some tea? At least you're out there still making waves. Maybe we could be friends."

last night something dropped heavy in my room like someone picked it up and dropped it.

bottom line here if he hadn't shown himself i'd be ok, he has and i don't feel comfortable here anymore to be honest. pc doesn't, the two kids are traveling in packs around the house. Neither will go anywhere w/o the other. so, it's def making us bond more.
