Red face follow up so far to admin frustration

I have finished the intake with Disability Law Center. They said it takes at least two weeks to call back. I mentioned that I will document things in the mean time and that I already had another call this morning and they said I would probably get a call THIS week then. I hope that means it sounds like a case that is up their alley.

So I did already have a call from school at 10 this a.m. saying they were reading a story about a boy with Asperger's and during it gfg decided to take out his gameboy (I didn't think it was a good idea to bring, but they started it last year as a tool BETWEEN classwork, and on the bus. He did well with it up to now). I found out he was "fired" from his morning cafeteria job at least for a while, it was the job that they had told me was going great. He just had to re-do things too much and it costs money to do that. I should have known because this morning he said "I can't wait to go to my cafeteria job" . He says that every time I say he is not going to do something so.... Then he said he got fired, and I said I doubt it since they have't told me and he said okay, shudda kept my mouth shut!

So #1 routine change, #2 got "fired"-more proof he is a bad kid, #3 book about ASD which he would read as a book about someone like him...it is all about him....and he doesn't like having autism at this point. So, he was in the background swearing etc. when they called. They said they would call again if he couldn't settle. I sent an email they replied back he was back into green zone so was okay.

I am sending as many questions and responses thru email as I can, so I have the paper trail to show admin that the bip is working. Also to show what I have been told, no misunderstandings.

I hate that my trust for these guys is shrinking...it could be one of the best success stories if they would just stick with it. But I have been here and worse before so........sigh

I am worried once they find out (if it comes to them actually being directly involved) about disability law, that the communication and tone will change. Up to now I am welcomed all the time, people call me, they (the sp. ed. team) go above and beyond. But they need their jobs and I know of a parent who was not even allowed her phone calls to go thru to the teacher. (same school, teacher, etc...just last year) She was escorted out of the building by the vp. We are very different people and I am very respectful and genuinely appreciative when they do well....so hopefully it wont happen. Just a feeling.

pacer hasn't called or emailed back yet

Keep on both avenues, disability law center and pacer. I am glad the school staff (minus admin) are willing to work with you. I am so jealous. MY staff went along with whatever admin wanted. My spare suit of armor is on it's way to you!!! You might need it. LOL

I really don't know what to tell you about the tone. Admin will probably make it impossible for there to be a good tone after he finds out about disability law. Maybe right before he finds out you could give them the heads up of this is happening and this is why. And by-the-way, you are doing a great job, this is the best team gfg has ever had, and I really want to thank you for the great job you and the others on the team or doing. (Say this maybe the afternoon or night before so they don't have any time to warn Admin. and they can't get in trouble for not warning him.) Maybe after the law gets admin on track you will still have a good team to work with.

Well, when push comes to shove I dont know....So far if admin interferes they just do it and nothing sp. ed can do. I think they do try to keep as much as possible off his radar though.

Re: follow up so far to admin frustration

teacher emailed me again....said she processed with gfg about the upset this morning. He told her he doesn't want to hear anything about autism or Asperger's anymore. They decided if that was upsetting to him, next time he could have his own book to read. He really doesn't want to be "different" right now, and that for one thing, is a pretty normal middle school feeling! He is out with ILS worker and I am not gripping the phone anymore. It is closeby though. NOW, how many wanna bet that admin calls to say they are going to do something about his upset today? Even though he calmed and they never called and said they couldn't handle it. HMMM????? I want this feeling to end. Here's hoping and praying it is off their radar today.

If admin does call and wants to issue a consequence, I would point blank ask him "If he calmed down AND processed it with staff, why do you feel he needs punishment when TEACHING THE APPROPRIATE SKILLS worked great?" I would be interested to hear his response (make sure you're recording the conversation).

You have to be careful with recording phone calls. It depends on the state you live in if it is ok or not. I'd rather have that conversation in an e-mail. But if you still want to do it Radio Shack could be helpful. When getting my recording device I had to lie to them to get them to sell it to me. I told them it was for cutesy recordings between my mom and gfg1. Maybe speaker phone with a recording device right next to it? Or they might have something that plugs right into the phone (that is what I got.)

I'm not sure. When the call comes to my home phone, I can hit the "record" button on my answering machine. Not sure how else unless you can do speaker with like a digital recorder (Walmart has them for about $20) next to it.

Check out this website. Recording in Minnesota is legal.
