    Angry Psych exam

Does anyoe have any info on a sorno exam? Supoosedly is supposed to tell the therapist whether or not your child is likely to grow up being a sex offender???? my gfg is 13 and while I agree he has no tact or sudalities when expressing his desires I DO NOT think my child is going to hurt anyone. I am wary of therapist being that our extended family has suffer through false accustions from supposed forgotten memories.

This is a new one on me, but I'm not so much "in the know". Sorry I can't help.

If there was a test to give that would tell if your child was destined to be a sex offender, I'd sure think it would have hit the media big time.

    Re: Psych exam

    Hello CAT,

I would be very wary of a tdoc doing this sort of profile on my child without having a clear reason for doing so.

    What are the therapist's qualifications?
Does your son have a history of unusual sexual behaviour that would require this level of analysis?
If he doesn't, then why does the tdoc feel that this test is necessary? Has he or she provided you with the reasoning, information about how the test works, what the test does and does not measure, and how the test results will be used?

I think you need more information before you proceed with this.

    Re: Psych exam

I would absolutely suggest that you deal with a child psychiatrist and avoid a therapist who more than likely does not have the qualifications to cope with your sons supposed issues. A neuro/psych examination would identify your sons problems and those are not done by "therapists". DDD
DH & I have raised our 25 yr.old grandson. At 14 he turned to pot & booze to cope with problems. He's a GFG#1. In 2005 he fell off a balcony, had brain surgery and has TBI effects. His recovery is very stressful. Time will tell if he ends up GFG or PC. Our GFG#2 is 21 and now lives with his GFGmom. He's ADHD, AS, BP plus. DH and I have 6 children and 11 grands. Yikes!

"There is currently no scientifically validated system or test to determine exactly which adolescent sex offenders pose a high risk for recidivism."

    from http://www.ndaa.org/publications/new...er_2_2002.html

I have to tell you, my knee-jerk response to your question was no way would I subject my kid to any "testing" to predict future behavior. Nope, nope, nope. Especially under the circumstances as you've described.

    What does your lawyer say?

    Re: Psych exam

I wouldn't do it. What are this therapist's credentials? What kind of test? Does he have a history of molesting anyone? Does he talk about sex all the time, sit on the internet on porn sites? I wouldn't want this therapist in my life. I think I'd tell her I'm going to see a Psychiatrist (with a big fat MD) and not do the tests. Then she can't accuse you of not getting help for him.

    Re: Psych exam

NO WAY. I would not trust any exam that would "predict" if my child would be a sex offender.

My son DID start some sexual harrassment/abuse of my dau. We stopped it as soon as we found out. He actually was in a phosp when we learned the full extent of it.

The therapist described sexual offenders as having a "Ladder" of behaviors. Verbal sexual harrassment was on a lower rung. As the offender progresses the behaviors go up the ladder to more serious sexual abuse.

There is NO reliable way to tell if your son will progress up the ladder, but it might be helpful to have him seek treatment with an MD (psychiatrist) and with a therapy group of other teen sexual offenders and a GOOD therapist.

This sounds like a witchhunt to me. No offense, but it seriously sounds like a way to railroad kids.

I am sorry you have to deal with this.

    Re: Psych exam

this would make me uncomfortable as well. Although my GFG II's behavior with the opposite sex, mainly his extreme interest at the young age of 11, makes me worry. He does not take "no" for an answer. In the social scene with girls this could be a nightmare for him. It is my biggest fear aside from him hurting himself.
