    Transgender

I am transgendered and when my kids were young, I told them I was born with a girl body and a boy brain, and that I got doctors to help me make my outsides more like a boy's to match my boy brain.

Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS)/Reactive Attachment Disorder (RAD) parents - Would you adopt again?

Someone contacted me last week about adopting a 6 year old boy and I nearly had a panic attack. It hurts my heart that I am frankly just too scared to parent again. I feel like a failure. Like there could have been more I could have done, I should have *been* more for my son. I can't get past...

How do I prevent this from continuing? lots of questions

I am very certain that TV does have a huge effect on some of our kids. An adult relative watched an episode of the vampire show True Blood with my difficult child in the room (grrr, last time difficult child spends the night there), and now, a year later, when difficult child is manic he will often bring up seeing a vampire bite...

Interagency Serivice Coordination meeting, how to be prepared

thank you for the support. I just want this meeting over with. My daughter is so terrified that they're going to arrest me and she'll never see me again that she's having nightmares and anxiety attacks. My son is aware that the plan is for him not to come home and he's shown no emotion...

Interagency Serivice Coordination meeting, how to be prepared

I want him in Residential Treatment Center (RTC), and he's been approved through the dept. of developmental disabilities, but there's no bed for him anywhere, so unless I want to bring him home when he's discharged from acute care on Wednesday, then I have to abandon him to the state so they'll place him in foster care until...

Interagency Serivice Coordination meeting, how to be prepared

A very honest social worker at the Department of Developmental Disabilities told me the purpose of this meeting is to get everyone in the same room to convince me that they'll give my family the moon and stars if I just agree not to abandon difficult child to the dept. of children's services. difficult child has been...

Symmetrel? Anyone heard using this as a mood stabilizer?

They put difficult child on it this morning as an additional mood stablizer to go along with the 300mgs of Trileptal 2x a day. He's been manic the whole time he's been in hospital.

How do you keep feeling love after they cross the line?

I am going to call the district attorney's office tomorrow and explain the situation and ask what my options are, if I could pay the fine and avoid prosecution, etc. The paper trail is pretty hardcore. We first reported behavior problems to the pediatrician within six months of bringing him...

How do you keep feeling love after they cross the line?

To be frank, it's not a drop in the sea if they also take my terminally ill child away from me and she dies before I get out of jail. That's what stops me.

How do you keep feeling love after they cross the line?

Also, I wanted to say that I know difficult child has never actually struck or injured daughter. threatened her numerous times, thrown objects that *nearly* hit her, but he is never, ever alone with her. We have a very small apartment, two bedrooms, and my bed is in the dining nook right off the living...

How do you keep feeling love after they cross the line?

Susie, thank you so much for your post. I do appreciate the understanding. My daughter most likely has less than 10 years to live, so the very thought of having her live away from me is devastating. The thought that she's afraid enough of him that she *wants* to is chilling. difficult child is violent for...

How do you keep feeling love after they cross the line?

I feel very sad for my son. Heartbroken. I know that if he had a choice, he would not choose to act this way. But I think that he is in no way guided by any internal morals or principles, no driving concept of right and wrong. He acts purely based on his own benefit, feelings and urges...

How do you keep feeling love after they cross the line?

I have to respectfully disagree, as I have tried for years. No caseworker, through Mental Health, Department for Developmental Disabilities, any of the hospitals he has been in, None of the psychiatrists, psychologists, or social workers who have seen him, no literature I have found or parent in...

How do you keep feeling love after they cross the line?

He was abandoned in the hospital at birth. The biomom had several other children (4-5 of them) already in foster care, and there was a protective order for her unborn baby already, so she had him, got dressed, and left a few hours later. Was never seen again, as far as I know. He went straight...

How do you keep feeling love after they cross the line?

There is no out of home placement in Louisiana. There is one hospital program for autistic boys age 13-18 to transition into assisted living, but they only have 20 beds. There is an 18 month waiting list. We have in the past moved to Tennessee for a year so he could get more comprehensive care...

How do you keep feeling love after they cross the line?

Thursday morning I found my difficult child suffocating our cat. Thankfully I caught him in time, but he was laying on the cat, all 100lbs of him, and the cat clearly would have died if I hadn't found him. He laughed when I screamed for him to stop. He is now on psychiatric stay #7, where they will tweak his medications...

    easy child?? gggrrrrr

Here is how her name could be on a high score from December: If it is a game that you have to sign up and log in, she could have played it online on your easy child, her DS, etc, and had saved scores, and then when she logged into the same game from the Iphone, it showed her saved history of previous...

You know you have a difficult child if.....

you check difficult child out of school for an eye doctor appointment, and run into someone you know at McDonalds afterwards, around lunchtime. They greet you with, "oh no, is difficult child suspended again?" You can identify such distinct sounds as "that's a tennis shoe hitting the wall" or "that's a plastic easter...

    A bit stunned

This happened to us once too. They said they worked on a group therapy model and difficult child was too withdrawn to participate and "get anything out of the program". I guess it's for the best, two years later they were shut down for lack of funding.
