A Poem for Memorial Day

I saw this online earlier & I thought I would share it with are US members celebrating Memorial Day. Remember our freedom comes at a great price.

In Flanders Fields
by John McCrae, May 1915

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep,
though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

That is beautiful.

Our small town recently lost it's first soldier. A boy all 3 of my kids went to school with. He was only 19. :crying: A good kid well liked by the whole community.

It wasn't surprising he was given a Hero's farewell. The whole town and most of the surrounding county turned out to say their good-byes.

Nice poem - thanks for posting.

We've lost two young soldiers here in our very small town as well.

And our very dear next door neighbor just got home last night from a 16 month tour of Afghanistan. We waited up til they got back from base last night at midnight in order to welcome him home. I was just so happy. They have three boys - 6, 4 and 18 months. We have become so close to his wife - now will get the chance to really get to know her husband again.

My dad was a very proud Marine who spent two tours in Vitenam before I was even born. I have been raised very patriotic.

Let's all say a prayer for all those still serving this Memorial Day Weekend.
