I have to say, I thought that a lot of the article was silly. The downplaying of chores while stating that a 14 year old is mature enough to marry is ridiculous. But I do agree that changing American culture has an awful lot to do with it. I do not think that teens are programmed or wired to question authority. Asian teens, as a rule, do not. 150 years ago, American teens did not. It was yes, sir and yes, ma'am. Sure, there were teen pregnancies, but these teens WERE married. My grandparents were married at the age of 15. I don't think anything can be done to change it. Any show you watch on TV, the parents look like imbeciles while the kids look at the camera with a wink and a thumbs up. It sickens me. This is why at the age of 4 my kid was telling me to talk to the hand, and giving me the "I'm watching you" sign (point to her eyes, point at me). If these freedoms were given to American kids as they are now, it would be disastrous. Of course this is a generalization, there are probably many teens who could handle it. As a rule, most could not. Most ADULTS cannot, for crying out loud.
