Things do change. We change and they change, even if we can't see it all the time. Difficult Child had me over to his place last night for Mother's Day dinner. I could tell he was nervous in the two days leading up to it, because he called me multiple times asking questions about the menu. How could he NOT KNOW that I wouldn't care if we ate mayonnaise sandwiches.... Anyway, we had a really good time, and a peaceful time, just the two of us. He told me that he has deactivated his FB page. To me, that is even better news than a lot of other things he could tell me. He is making progress. It may not all be pretty and in a straight line and like I would like it, but it is progress. He is light years from where he was this time last year. I am profoundly grateful and now, I have to work even harder with my tools---not to rush in, not to give advice, to be glad for the here and now, and not to think about the future or the past as key to what today brings. There is always work to be done right here, on me, all the time. So grateful to have learned this key piece of wisdom through this awful, incredible journey.
