Bone Cancer

My father in law has been sick for over a month now. He's lost over 30 lbs, is exhausted and in pain. husband and I were just there (the in-laws are in upstate NY) for a wedding. husband stayed for more than a week, which was good - he got to spend time with his Dad and give his Mom a break. She's been doing nothing but caring for him for weeks now. He's been to several doctors who have done blood work and told him they can't find anything wrong.

While husband was there, he took him to an appointment with a pain specialist, who finally took his symptoms serously and ordered a barrage of x-rays, bone scans, bloodwork, and an MRI. The results showed bone cancer in his spine and a spot on his lung. He saw an oncologist last Friday who ordered more tests on blood, bone marrow, and lymph nodes. They have to wait 7-10 days for the test results to learn what type of cancer it is and how advanced. At least they've gotten his pain under control for the time being, and have given him something to improve his appetite.

I wish we lived closer. I'm very close with my mother in law, and I really feel for her. She and father in law have been together since they were 14 years old. They never dated anyone but each other...he is her life. They are wonderful people, the salt of the earth. Please say a little prayer that the cancer is slow-growing and treatable.

Genny,

Your In-Laws are sure the exception to almost every rule. So I can't imagine your father in law not being the exception to the cancer diagnosis.

I'm going to keep your family in my prayers. I think I'd have to go back to those doctors that couldn't find ANYTHING and have a private conversation with them.

You're poor family - Hugs
