Cat Help

Crazy Cat Lady
Coughing and difficulty breathing can be the cardinal signs of heart problems in cats and yes, it can come on very quickly.

Bruce's problem most likely isn't a case of him catching something. It is likely that he had herpes as a youngster, which presents in cats as an upper respiratory infection with eye inflammation. Like herpes in humans (humans cannot catch cat herpes), it hides in the system and comes out periodically with mild URI symptoms.

Roll With It
For cats the dose is around 1/2 of a tablet of benedryl. Liquid causes a ton of mouth foaming but dose would be 1/2 tsp. For a very small cat I would give 1/4 of a tablet at first.

I hope he is doing better. If anyone in the family has albuterol, esp a nebulizer, try blowing that at him - you won't get as much as a person would, but it can help.
