A neuropsychologist, who is a clinical psychologist with extra training in the brain-behavior connection, will tell you through cognitive testing exactly what you're dealing with. The evaluation is typically 6 to 10 hours.

A developmental pediatrician, who is a medical doctor, will not do that type of intensive testing, but may be very helpful in the management and treatment of ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) symptoms. We did not find a developmental pediatrician particularly helpful with our kids' mood issues, but that may just have been our experience.
