The very fact that a kid needs the medications shows that they are not able to discern the need for them.

Well... not always. Our difficult child is VERY on top of his medications... HE sees the diff, accepts the side-effects, works with us on timing and dosage changes... And no, he can't survive without them, either. But he's NOT on the spectrum, doesn't have bi-polar or other mental illnesses...

BUT... yes. It seems that most of the kids who need serious mind/mood altering medications... are the ones who don't even recognize the impact the medications have.
