Um......

If your salary is normally taxed for the month - and it's in the bank that's done.

If you normally get your bonus and it's never been taxed? That's a precedent.
If you can go to him and say "Look every year prior you have set a precedent with me and not taken taxes out of my bonus and now all of a sudden you have? I guess I need to call someone." THAT could get him in ALL kinds of hot water with the IRS. Audit is a very ugly word.

If he's always TAKEN taxes out on bonuses which you are supposed to do - then this should not be a surprise to anyone, but MOST employers that I've ever worked for will pony up and pay the taxes FOR you. Example: I'm supposed to get a $1000.00 bonus. I will figure out that the taxes are 238.00. I will cut the check to myself for $1000.00 but claim in on the IRS reporting sheet as 1238.00 and the co. pays my portion and their portion.

I'm sorry Jo - no one should be THIS stressed over a nice bonus thing.

mmmm is that wine you are drinking sugar free? How's that going?
