Here we go again!
We are safe, thank you! The closest fire is about 20 or 25 miles away, and then another one is about 60 miles away. And I think there's yet another about 40 miles south of us near the coast.
The city had a work crew come out about three weeks ago with weed whackers to clear dead weeds/brush and create a 150 foot perimeter around our neighborhood. Usually that's left up to the homeowners, but after last Fall, they're not taking any chances. Plus, in May/June, husband and I cut down about 1/4 acre of dead/burned wood and brush left over from our November fire on the hill down below our yard. We shredded all the brush and small branches and then hauled it all back down and scattered it as mulch over the bare ground (took us several weeks to finish). And of course, we kept all the firewood for ourselves
It's going to be a nasty fire season -- the drought, the hot weather this time of year (we were at 106 in my neighborhood today)... not a good combo.
