because things have been pretty calm. difficult child who was placed in a therapeutic program last fall did very well academically this year. His math skills and reading have blossomed tremendously. He was doing multiplication by the end of his first grade year. He is reading everything he can get his hands on (even the newspaper - LOL). He will return to this school for another year.
The school hired an outside psychologist who specialized in AS kids (not their regular one)to do the testing we requested as 2 psychiatrist's diagnosis'd him with Pervasive Developmental Disorder (PDD), one with not otherwise specified and one with-Aspergers. Very pleased with-how thorough it was. The therapist from his school said she'd never seen such a thorough one in her over twenty years there. Basically, they diagnosis'd him with-ADD/ADHD combined type and mood disorder-not otherwise specified. Which I do believe, but medications for ADHD have never worked for him. His IQ tested at 112 although they felt it is probably higher because of his attention problems.
The psychologist said in all her years she had never seen a more complex child, -GREAT!
We are awaiting the results of a neuropsychologist evaluation that we had done through a major research project that we were accepted into. It is taking place in the northeast for kids who have been diagnosis'd with-Pervasive Developmental Disorder (PDD) or spectrum disorders - so at least we will have an independent evaluation (if we need it).
difficult child also started day camp this week. He loves it. So far so good. This is a kid who couldn't even hold it togeher at any daycare and has almost finished the week of camp with-no issues and has made some friends. He is slated to go for two weeks, then do extended school year (to keep him in the routine, plus they do fun beach outings etc.) then he'll have a little down time at home and one more stint at camp before returning to school.
He still receives in home services 2x a week and I think it has been helping - although last night he was so tuckered out from camp he slept through the appointment!
