I went to the Casino

I don't gamble. Ever. I grew up in Green Bay and never, ever went to the casino. So this past week I went to Green Bay to visit and I went to the Casino.

The lady had to show me around and explain the machines are "coinless". Only paper money. When you win you print out a ticket.

So I went to a penny machine, thinking I'll have 100 chances to spin the wheel. I couldn't get the machine to take my $1.00. So I went over to a quarter machine. I decided to put in $5.00 and that was all I would spend. I decided to bet only .25 so I would have more spins. My very FIRST spin I won. The machine started to ding. I felt like I won a million bucks. LOL. I won $37.75. So, I cashed out and left. I was there about 30 minutes.

husband said I should of atleast stayed and spent the $5.00 I planned to spend. But I was so happy I couldn't do that. LOL. People laugh at me when I tell them this. These people usually spend a couple hundred when they go. I spent a quarter!

I went to visit my mom's grave. It was one year on Friday. I then drove out to our cottage and played on the beach. It was cold, but pretty. Ice-burgs floating in the water yet.

It was a fun day.

Ha! Lightweight. Glad you won.

I know I had a friend visit Vegas a few years ago and she loves to play Keno, which I find dreadfully boring. I'm whining about playing that stupid game but she was so excited so I caved in. I put in one quarter and on my first play hit 6 out of 6 numbers for $475. She's screaming and pushed me out of my chair. I won't mention the explitives.

Glad you had fun!!

I'm glad you had a fun day!

You sound like me in the casino! I've only gone one time. A friend and I went once and she had never been in one either. I could hardly stand to be in there! So loud! It sounded like a thousand kids playing a thousand video games all at once! We decided that we would spend a whole $20 each, and in this one you use little token that look like fake quarters. You have to know how to play most of those games (we didn't!) so we settled on the slot machines. My friend, I think, came out $8 ahead. My approach was to just keep shoving quarters in there until they were all gone! When we left, I was down to my last fake quarter. However, if I had WON anything, they probably would have had to drag me out of there! Not something I'd want to do all the time. It was fun though, for one night. We had a nice dinner and we actually spent less than if we had just gone to a movie!

I have been to two casino's in my life...one out in MN and one here in NC in Cherokee. I went with groups from conventions for work. It was fun, and like Donna said, less money than going to a movie. I only took $10 to each of them and dinner was included at the one in MN. I just spent what I took and came home with my same amount of money so it was even steven and a good time.

Here we go again!
We are avoiding casinos for as long as possible. We've gone to Vegas a LOT, and we've gone to Indian casinos a bunch as well. Casinos are problematic for husband, especially when he's depressed and dare I say, hypomanic. We have won a lot, but we have lost more. His parents have a problem with gambling. His mom once told me that the only time she feels "alive" is when she's at a place like a casino. Very sad. Very scary.

We go to our casino to eat. We used to have a River Boat and that was cool. They had free cruises in the summer. So Once every couple of months we would go. A lot of fun. Now that we have a land based casino I have been in the building several times. Not once into the casino itself. A wedding reception once and then to eat. Actually had the buffet for lunch today after church.

That does sound like fun. I have been in casinos a few times and am still a very very unintelligent gambler. Those places really do overwhelm me with their lights and sounds.

Good for you for stopping while ahead!

I am glad you had a good day all around.

The one we went to was in St. Louis - it was on the "Admiral", the old excursion boat we used to go on as kids, now docked and turned in to a casino. They were supposed to have been scraping it, and may have by now. It wasn't at all like I thought it would be though. I expected a lot of young people. What I saw was a lot of elderly people who looked like they may have just gotten their Social Security checks. Guess I've just seen too many James Bond movies!

I haven't had much opportunity for casinos but have run across a few slot machines in my life. I do the same as far as budgeting money out and consider it "entertainment" allowance- whether it's a horse race or lottery or a slot machine, I'll limit myself to $5-$20 about once a year. LOL!! But I tend to think I have more fun and get more excited about winning $2 with $1 than some of these people who spend thousands and win thousands more.

K...I am the same way. I guess I just dont have much of the gambling blood in me. Pogo thrills me...lol. I am happy if I win a scratch off lottery ticket for 2 bucks. I remember the first time that happened to me in VA. Gosh knows how thrilled I was when I spent 1 buck and won ten...lol. Could have knocked me over with a feather! I have never done the mega million deal. I simply wouldnt know how.

My dad goes to that horse place but I have never been.

You need to come and visit me Janet!! We can set our entertainment budget before we go anywhere so we don't end up needing more therapy. LOL!

Hi Kjs,
Glad you had a fun day and won at the Casino.

I gotta admit I go about once a week to the casino.
Friday I only brought a hundred dollars with me and ended up taking home over 700 dollars! I was thrilled. I gave husband 500 of it and my easy child a 100 of it. easy child gets a "cut", lol, everytime I go to the casino cause she doesn't like me to go...thinks it will help put the brakes on me if I have to give her some money too when I go.
But, I'm shamelss. I simply love the casino, pure entertaiment, for me.
I won 4 Jackpots of between 1,300 and 1,400 last year...so cool!

Go Tammy!!

The first year I moved to Vegas I hit 34 royals. It was a running joke with my friends. They put up a white board on my fridge to check off each one I got. I know many people who have been there 10 years and never hit one. I don't know the dollar amount total, but it was significant. Each one was about $1199 to $1800. Fast forward 7 years...well, not so good. I pretty much stopped playing a few years ago. The glitz and glamour and losing gets old.

Thanks Abbey!
I don't know what hitting 34 Royals is but it sounds big!

I have this favorite machine called "Pompeii". I have been known to wait up to 2 hours behind someone playing on "my machine", lol. Oh, and I've even made some friends there, people I see regularly sitting round my machine with me...exchanged phone numbers everything. I love the escapism...
I DID take oldest difficult child with me 2 weeks ago. He played blackjack with only 140 dollars, got it up to 600 and lost it all. He was pretty bummed with himself all the way home...dont' think I'll be taking any more difficult child's with me for awhile, lol.

Good Luck to all!!!

Tammy, hitting a royal is getting a royal flush on a video poker machine. They are everywhere. It is well known by locals to be the the 'crack' of gambling. Very addictive. I just was very lucky that first year, but in the end you give it all back. They don't make those luxury casinos out of winners.

After awhile, I'd take in $20 and play the penny fun games. Sometimes you win, but most often not. I looked at it this way - I don't travel, don't go to movies, but if once every few weeks I can spend $20 and a couple of hours playing silly penny slots, that is not too bad. In fact, the last two times I was in Vegas I never gambled a penny. been there done that... I'll leave that to the tourists.
