Just when I thought he was doing better, 17-year-old difficult child was arrested

Hi Origami,
I've been there. My difficult child had many run in with the police and he would say and claim similar things. Calling them names, claiming they don't know how to do their jobs, they're idiots, etc..... I refused to ever retain an attorney for my difficult child especially when he would steal from me. I would always take time off from work to go to his court dates. One time when the judge called him up to the front and asked if his parents were there, the judge paused, looked at me and said, "hello Mrs.#######, oh yes, I had become a regular. It is so hard to deal with our difficult child's attitudes of entitlement and never claiming any responsibility for their actions. It's always someone else's fault. I feel your pain, been there too many times. Let us know how things go at court.
