She talked to her recruiter yesterday, and now it's back on.

First, she now says the recruiter didn't say to lie...he said to risk to her friend Kim, who was also trying to sign on. Kim tried to get a waiver for some issues and was turned down. She took that to mean, keep past history quiet.

But yesterday, with full knowledge of her past history, the recruiter offered her a bonus of $5000. Which she will have to get thru basic training and her schooling to receive. I told her what ever she decides yo do was fine with me. He assured her that they will never find out unless she tells them, or someone who knows her tells them.

I guess I am just relieved that she is leaving... And I hope and pray she can do this. She has matured some since high school...will be 20 in six months. Please, please, let this be something good for her.

I hope this is the beginning of good things for her also. Maturity is a critical factor in all of this mayhem.

Some children skate through adolescence and young adulthood with minor difficulty and others as we all well known do not. This does not mean to say that they can't turn things around.

I read an article about drug use in youth from a past drug addict with a learning disability and she recons that drug use in some individuals is due to a learning disability. She indicated that a majority of youth age out of their drug use and anricoping behaviour as they mature and find better coping mechanisms. I found this very interesting.

Best of luck to you all and may she find great success in the marines.

I'm thinking this is going to be good for her. She can make you and herself proud and that's an incredible step!!

Good for her. The Marines are probably the most difficult branch to grt into. I think it is awesome.
A friend's son joined straight out of high school. He is now assigned to the presidents helicopter escort detail. He just got married last month. No one saw any of this in his future. It really is their story to write.

I hope this works out for her and that she will stick with it no matter how hard.

Can she just NOT go? I didn't know that was an option with the military. It's not really like blowing off a shift at McDonald's.

I really don't know much about it, but I was under the impression that once you signed, you were in.

From what I have heard, if she doesn't show up on the day to ship out...nothing happens. Not like the old days. She did all the aptitude testing and physical exam about 6 months ago and swore in. But I have googled it...so if she doesn't show, it doesn't seem to be a legal problem.

I wouldn't tell her that - that is if you want her to go!
