Minus Hawaii, the best winter weather in the US

Yellowstone is a must-see!

We are lucky to have a relative that owns some condos in a skiing community near there, and love to visit.

If you love bird-watching, take a nice telescope or even binoculars. Animal watching is my hubby's favorite part. I love the mud pots, myself. (My current avatar is a picture taken at Yellowstone. One of the gorgeous waterfalls).

My X is from Wyoming, so have visited there many times.

Don't discount Montana for a fall outing. Visit Custer Battlefield. My X-relatives lived there on the Crow Reservation. It is a unique place also.

If you go to NM, try Albequerque in the spring or fall.

Beautiful, with Spanish influence architecture, and lots of mountains.

Sample all the beauty of this great country!

My sis-in-law and her hubby are very liberal, and they love North Carolina. It is on their top ten list of retirement areas, when they retire in a couple of years. They have a more cosmopolitan lifestyle, which won't include RVing, but they love the state, especially the beaches and the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area known as the Research Triangle. The love the state parks, too.

I have a good friend (originally from Haiti) who lives there and loves it.
She feels very welcome there.

SWOT, you say hubby hates CA, but in my opinion, you HAVE to see NORTHERN CA - not for winter though - I have photos where you couldn't see the house over the snow on the first day of spring! I was born in Mt. Shasta, which is apparently in some weird microclimate and has more snowfall than anyplace else in the same area - literally a stone's throw from OR. If you haven't been, you must see the northern redwoods then jog over to the coast. It is just beautiful and the entire pacific NW coast is amazing. I've never been anywhere as majestic.

I've never been SW or NE - always NW or SE. Someday I'd love to see the other two directions. :) Jabber, however, has been SW and NE. I guess we'll just have to take turns showing each other stuff. lol!

Northern CA is beautiful, Central CA not so much. The Sierras are pretty, but here on the Valley floor, it's brown and dusty. I've never been a fan of Southern CA, with the exception of San Diego. Perfect weather and tons of stuff to do.

Oregon and Washington are beautiful in the summer.

Okay, I feel most qualified to speak on the South, rednecks, and rv's.

I have lived my entire life in SC. I have never seen (except in photos on Facebook) rednecks in the back of a truck, with shotguns, waiving a rebel flag. I have never had a KKKlansman approach me or deliver a pamphlet to my home or place one on my car.

What many see as a redneck is considered a "country" boy in other areas of the country. Yes, we like to hunt. We like to fish. We like burn barrels, and bbq, and country music. But we are also dr's, teachers, lawyers, and accountants.

I have had an rv on a permanent lot in a small campground for 2 years. Since June, I have lived in it (waiting to close on our new home in this area) RV living is not bad but be prepared to seriously downsize. Be prepared to use a laundromat (I miss my washer/dryer) and often they are expensive in campgrounds. Campsites in SC range from $25 to &100 per night. And pulling a camper with a truck or driving an rv from location to location can be costly-most get between 8-10 mpg. Most people who camp are very friendly no matter what area of the country they are from.

We will do a lot of boondocking too and avoid expensive campgounds. I dont mind doing laundry at a laundromat and support minimalism. We live in an apartment now, no desire to ever live in a house again.

I like the idea of cheap but extensive travel. Freedom.

im not afraid of the south. I do think my almost socialist political views may not be welcome bit i rarely talk politics. Heck, Im almost too liberal for San Francisco so I dont need people to think just like me. Nice folks is all.

No matter where I am, I call people out on racial slurs and I have black and an Asian child. People would have to be cool with that in case we travel together.

I envy you every woman....sounds Devine.

When kids were young, we had a pop up...camped all over eastern sea board.

I will admit to seeing a pick up truck flying the rebel flag....but truly, people in Wal-Mart are scarier!

Every town has wackos

SWOT I know why I like you .......we are quite liberal in our views and have learned to keep our mouths shut most of the time but racial slurs aren't ignored. We have been known to call people out on them in front of whomever they are talking to. Sometimes I think people need to be confronted so they think the next time the spout off their bigotry.

Well, Nancy, I like you for many reasons. But, yes, I normally keep to myself...but a racial slur will be confronted. it is not okay.

Ditto. Everyone knows not to talk religion and politics with strangers. Heck, some of my family it's better to keep my mouth shut. If I blocked every Trump voter on Facebook, I'd lose most of my family members! But that doesn't mean you can't be nice and have a lovely time with other pleasant people. Everyone is entitled to their opinions - but spouting off nastiness is another thing. Correcting that is not being liberal...that's simply standing up for other people.

SWOT-you would be just fine. Most folks are friendly and accepting. The area is beautiful. It is set on the largest lake in SC and covers 4 counties. There is abundant wildlife. Most parks are dog friendly/I know that is important to you. Despite what many believe, the people in SC are loving, caring, and supportive of each other. There are a mix of nationalities, races, and religions in the area I live, but the majority of the population is African American. The socio-economic situation is low, but the is the cost of living is a lot less than in larger urban areas.

MOF, oh I've seen trucks flying the Confederate flag, but it was not loaded with shotgun bearing Klansmen. Instead it was some poor, ignorant backwards boy who thought he was displaying his heritage.

I actually had SC high on my list.

My only fear is...hurricanes!!!!! Same with Florida.

I've actually seen Confederate flags here in WIsconsin. That isn't a big issue with me...lol. want a nice cost of living, mouthing and/or water and plenty of state parks where the camping can be free for a few nights.

Check out Santee State Park, Poinsette State Park, Huntington State Park. All are nice. No hurricanes in the winter months. That's a summer/fall issue.
