Monk TV show-- his therapist?

My husband just said he was watching an episode of Monk just now and it was in memory of the character who played Monks therapist? When did this person pass away?

Here is what I found when I googled Stanley Kamel:
On April 8, 2008, Kamel was found dead in his Hollywood Hills home. Police investigators ruled that the cause of death was a heart attack. He was 65.

I remember him from soaps of earlier eras. As the show went on I didn't think he looked healthy, but I didn't realize he was 65, which is getting to look younger and younger every day....

I wonder how this tragedy will be written into the show - I liked him very much in his role as the therapist - should be interesting to see how Monk deals with this loss and how they portray it for someone with MOnk's disabilities.
