Hi New Leaf…

How are you holding up these days? What is happening now that Tornado has had some time to sober up? Have you heard from her? A letter? A call?

Thinking of you,

Hi LMS,
Thank you for asking. I’m doing much better that my knee healed a bit and I can venture into my jungle garden. The movement and work helps to keep me grounded. Tornado at first wanted to serve her term, saying that rehab “wasn’t working” but her P.O. and the judge vetoed that idea. Tornado participates in a pilot program called Woman’s court, the goal is to try to get lesser offenders into rehab to stop the drug/crime cycle. Tornado sounds a bit better with each call, as she sobers up. In her initial contact she was trying to convince me that she should be able to be around family even if she relapses and is using meth. That doesn’t fly with me. My granddaughter has been exposed enough to that.
Now she is talking about applying for rehabs and taking a young prisoner under her wing and having Bible study together. I have an old friend who is a prison guard and he texted and told me Tornado looks much better than when she first arrived. He said that she is a hard worker on the work line and is kind to other inmates, that unlike others, she has not “lost her humanity.”
She is much less manipulative these days and does not push as much as she used to. She is also aware that she may have dual diagnosis, and is willing to explore further options to get help. I hope that this happens. Her boyfriend is out of jail and in rehab. Hopefully they will encourage one another towards sober living. Only time will tell.
She has three grandchildren from her eldest son. I pray that she will realize what she is missing out on if she continues her street life.
It is completely up to her to decide. I stay in contact as long as she is not abusive or manipulative. Most of our conversations have been pleasant this time around. So I do see a change.
I hope all is well with you LMS. Thank you so
much for thoughtfulness.
(((Hugs)))

This makes my heart so happy New Leaf. ❤️

It sounds like Tornado is making progress. I love hearing that she’s taking another one under her wing and having Bible studies together.

I also love hearing that Tornado has not lost her humanity. It sounds like there should be great hope for. She is not done cooking!

Hopefully with her and her boyfriend both in rehab they can encourage each other. But at the same time Tornado needs to understand that her sobriety should not be dependent on her boyfriend’s. I hope she realizes her sobriety is a road she must walk alone regardless of what happens to him.

I am also hoping that Tornado will seek psychiatric help if she does have a dual diagnosis…which many addicts have. The right medication can make a world of difference.

I’m glad you are getting around better with that knee of yours. Your “jungle garden” sounds so peaceful.

All in all this is good news.
I pray it continues.
Love,
LMS

I agree with everyone! It certainly sounds like she has not lost her humanity, as LMS said. I think your love has had more influence on her than you probably know, New Leaf. Great news and I hope these moments of growth continue.

New Leaf, it's so nice to read how Tornado is doing. For her it seems little by little step by step. I hope and pray she will get much further along this time and make a nice life for herself.

New Leaf how I loved reading your post. I am so happy for Tornado. I hope to G-d that feeling and being a productive, caring, giving person will motivate and enrich her life. I am so thrilled for you that you have this glimpse of change for her, that she is making for herself.
Nobody or nothing can take this moment away.
